LUSAIL, Qatar (AP) — Lionel Messi finally won the biggest prize in soccer as Argentina beat France 4-2 in a penalty shootout Sunday to claim a third World Cup title despite Kylian Mbappé scoring the first hat trick in a final in 56 years.
Gonzalo Montiel scored the clinching penalty kick as Argentina won after a 3-3 draw.

Did Messi win or Argentina?
Liking or loving soccer is a slow growth process for Americans.
Has to be cultivated to be understood - (culture/history).
Most awful that the ultimate results of the last 16 teams are left to penalty kicks.
This ought to be changed with a clear win on the field deciding.
Socialist in charge are thick headed.
They know how to mess everything.
Long baseball games = more concession sales and more TV ads.
Now you have an idea how much older I am than you. If you want to watch Pele play, try to find video of him. Back in the day, he was just amazing.
:)
I’ll check YouTube.
RE: Did Messi win or Argentina?
Both. One individually, the other collectively
Italy as a country wasn't one of the 32 nations in the World Cup.
I think Brazil was favored to win it all, before the World Cup started. They lost to Croatia on penalty kicks. A country of 210 million people lost to a country of 4 million people.
According to Wikipedia, he was born in Paris. His father was from Cameroon and his mother from Algeria (Kabyle, a Berber-speaking ethnic group).
You’re stupid and boring
Yes.
I don’t care for soccer much but will watch the late rounds and final game just to admire the athletic skills and abilities of the players. They are some of the best athletes on the planet.
Did France at least win for most believable fake on-pitch injuries?

I think one of the main reasons for trashing it, is the endless fake fouls. The constant sight of players falling and grabbing their leg as if they’d been shot, the seeing a replay and seeing that there was NO contact, AT ALL. It’s the epitome of poor sportsmanship.
Maybe other people have other reasons, but that’s the reason I cannot stand to watch that stupid sport. Even though I do appreciate and enjoy the great skill and plays, I cannot stomach the fake “Oh, I’m in agony” b.s., followed by that same player running at full speed 15 seconds later.
It’s a sport full of deceit and lousy sportsmanship. If you’re going to win, then win, without trying to gain an advantage by essentially lying.
Oh, and while I’m on a rant, here’s another thing: a few years ago, there was a player named Suarez - brilliant ball handler and striker. On three different occasions (that I am aware of) he BIT opposing players. And what did their teammates do about it? They whined to the refs. That guy should have had all of his front teeth knocked out by the other opposing players, right then and right there in the field.
Is soccer a sport?
Wow, I bet you are fun at parties.
I don’t why you would watch something you hate and trash.
If you don’t like the sport, why watch it, makes no sense.
“The TV ratings for today’s game will dwarf the Super Bowl ratings multiple times over.”
———————————————————————————————————————————
So very true……
The average World Cup game dwarfed the highest ratings the Super Bowl ever had. This game will dwarf anything that has been watched on television.
You people that hate soccer, go back and watch woke NFL, MLB (4hours of boring) or the chinese NBA. Have fun will all that bull $hit. Ill take the most popular game in the world any day.
