LUSAIL, Qatar (AP) — Lionel Messi finally won the biggest prize in soccer as Argentina beat France 4-2 in a penalty shootout Sunday to claim a third World Cup title despite Kylian Mbappé scoring the first hat trick in a final in 56 years.
Gonzalo Montiel scored the clinching penalty kick as Argentina won after a 3-3 draw.

Crazy game. I’m glad Messi won.
It was a crazy game, went back and forth and it looked like Argentina had it won multiple times but had to win it with penalty kicks.
I don’t know. For three hours you watch the ball going from one end of the field to the other and finally in the shootout in the last five-to-ten minutes maybe there’s some actual scoring.
I’m glad we have sports in America that you can actually enjoy watching.
One good thing about soccer, the highlight reels are only three seconds long.
What a stupid boring game.
Is it over. Are all the ‘Cups’ now over?
Yeah, and the highlight reels are free.
I can’t image paying to be so bored for three hours.
I’m glad we have sports in America that you can actually enjoy watching.
AMEN, brother. I'm sooo glad we won't have this thrown in our faces every day anymore.....*sigh*until next time.
What I don’t understand is if you don’t like the sport that’s fine, I’m not a huge fan of it either, why trash it, I do appreciate the athletic talent and conditioning of the players and it’s pretty interesting how involved the fans and countries all over the world get into it.
The TV ratings for today’s game will dwarf the Super Bowl ratings multiple times over.
In how many countries do they equalize pay between men and women?
Congratulations Argentina! It was several games in one: France didn’t show up in the first half and fell behind 2 - 0. Then they scored twice in the second half in the space of ninety seconds to tie it. Argentina scores in the 110th minute to go ahead, then a handball by the Argies gives France a penalty kick and they tie it with a few ticks on the clock. The Argentine goalie was fantastic. Made a great save in the overtime and then blocked one kick (another French kicker put his shot wide). So again, congratulations Argentina and Messi and all the players! To the French, zoot alors!
I agree. My personal observation. The game ended on a shootout. It seems random to me. Why not a sudden overtime with no goalie? Or instead of 11 players, you have 9 players on the field?
But you love the NBA and 4 hour MLB games???
Right.
No of course not! The Champions League tournament will resume in January (EPL restarts next Monday the 26th). And there's the FA Cup and La Liga and Serie A and the Bundesliga and etc etc etc.....
Well, I am not going to miss the ads with Megan Rapping-Ho.
White Supremacy- Congratulations Argi’s!!!
Penalty Kicks are bullsh*t.
Take two players off with each additional overtime.
