The first openly transgender woman set to be executed in the U.S. is asking Missouri's governor for mercy for the rape and murder of her ex-girlfriend, citing mental health issues.
Lawyers for Amber McLaughlin, now 49, on Monday asked Republican Gov. Mike Parson to spare her. McLaughlin was convicted of killing 45-year-old Beverly Guenther on November 20, 2003.
Then known by the name Scott McLaughlin, she had been terrorizing and stalking her ex-girlfriend Guenther before she raped her and then stabbed and strangled her to death.
McLaughlin dumped Guenther's body in St. Louis near the Mississippi River, according to STLToday.
She was sentenced as a persistent offender to consecutive terms of death for first degree murder, life for armed criminal action, and life for forcible rape, according to the original case file.
In an appeal for clemency, McLaughlin's lawyers cited her traumatic childhood and mental health issues, which the jury never heard during the original trial.
Her trial lawyers decided not to let a psychiatrist testify, having discovered that their expert witness had lied about lab data in previous testimony.
A foster parent rubbed feces in McLaughlin's face when she was a toddler and her adoptive father tased her, according to the letter to Parson. She tried to kill herself multiple times, both as a child and as an adult.
However, this wasn't McLaughlin's first run-in with the law. She's listed on the Missouri Sex Offender Registry and was at one point incarcerated for the 1992 sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. She was released in May of 1997.

Man, that sounds harsh. Someone should tell him to think of it more as euthenasia rather than execution.
Imagine writing a news article and not having the self-respect enough to call a biological man “he”, but instead, like a craven little coward, obeying the gender cult and calling him “she”.
I am so confused. What is a transgendered woman, a man or a woman? Is it a woman pretending to be a man or a man pretending to be a woman? There needs to be some clarity in our conversation about these mentally ill people.
A wise freeper awhile ago said to substitute “trans” for “fake” and it clears it right up. But yes - I had to do that for this article, it seemed less clear to me for some reason tonight.

The best way I have heard to figure it out is when you hear “transgender”, substitute the word “fake”.
So a transgender man, is a fake man, IOW, really a woman, one just pretending to be a man, and a transgender woman is a fake woman, IOW, really a man, but one pretending to be a woman.
So, a ‘trans’ person is claiming mental health problems? This could be a real sticky wicket. If this person is granted their claim, then the Woke Culture is admitting it is a mental health problem. What to do? What to do?
