Ron DeSantis Holds Early Lead Over Donald Trump Among GOP Primary Voters, WSJ Poll Shows
WSJ ^ | 14-DEC-2022 | John McCormick

Republican primary voters have high interest in Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a potential 2024 presidential nominee and view him more favorably than they do former President Donald Trump, a new Wall Street Journal poll shows.

In a hypothetical contest between the two, Mr. DeSantis beats Mr. Trump, 52% to 38%, among likely GOP primary voters contemplating a race in which the first nomination votes will be cast in just over a year.

The poll found that Mr. DeSantis is both well-known and well-liked among Republicans who say they are likely to vote in a party primary or nominating contest, with 86% viewing the Florida governor favorably, compared with 74% who hold a favorable view of Mr. Trump. One in 10 likely GOP primary voters said they didn’t know enough about Mr. DeSantis to venture an opinion of him.

What a juvinile response. Calling someone with whom you disagree a “paid shill” is so ‘1990’s’.

Just name one of those grandiose Shakespearean flaws

Like Titania, he doesn't like germs. Or spotted snakes with double tongue, Thorny hedgehogs... Newts - well, except Gingrich - he's okay. Blindworms like pence are right out of there.

The only thing I’m tired of is Never Trumpers doing their best to demoralize the base and cause issues.

I'm not a Never Trumper. I supported him in the 2016 primaries. I donated money to both his campaigns. I voted for him twice.

I have a posting history on this forum to back up these claims.

But Trump cannot win in 2024. He has no path to the White House. Since 2018, Trump has been most successful at getting Democrats elected.

You want to see America become more woke, more liberal that you can possibly imagine? Get behind Trump's losing campaign and this will be the end result.

Demoralize the base? I'm trying to talk sense into people.

Trump as the GOP presidential candidate in 2024 will be a disaster in defeat.

You’re a pro-vax anti-Trumper, exactly what CONSERVATIVE values and policies do you support? I’ve yet to see you support any, on the contrary you always defend establishment policies, so why wouldn’t people suspect you are a shill?

And if DeSantis is the nominee, look for the media to go after him the same way they went after Trump.

Sordid love affairs
Former lovers he’s beaten
etc. etc. etc.

They already tried that. They were looking high and low for dirt on DeSantis.

The best they could find were photos, fully clothed and completely innocent, alleging that he partied with some high school girls when he was a college student.

Well, lock him up!

The guy is a boy scout.

People want Trump’s policies without his almost Shakespearean temperamental flaws.

He's always struck me as a Shakespearean persona, likely with a Shakespearean character arc.

Try and win without Trumps core support. You guys think you can?

Tell that to Brian Kemp and Brad Raffensperger.

At the end of the day, Georgia's MAGA base licked their wounds and came home for the Big Win.

The alternative was more than they could bear.

It'll be the same for DeSantis, with the added bonus that he'll bring home many of the moderate Republicans, independents, and swing voters that Trump chased away costing him his re-election

Are you aware that Trump orchestrated the development of these vaccines. Are you aware that Trump recommended his supporters get the vaccine?

You need to look more. Evidently, you believe I’m a shill because I don’t:
Believe QAnon.
Believe Pence had the authority to reject certain ballots.
Believe alleged, but unproven, fraud justifies terminating the Constitution.
Believe MAGA is dead without Trump.
Believe former Presidents running for re-election should have white supremicists and racists over for dinner.
Believe Bill Gates is behind a plot to use the vaccines to depopulate the world.

why are “the-talked-to-folks” ao eager to get a state’s governor into federal politics, when that governor is doing great works within that state, in righting wrongs?

IMHO, they hate what he is doing.

"Are you sure DeSantis will deliver Trump’s policies?"

One of the biggest selling points for Ron is that he WON'T deliver Trump's harmful policies.

The Don had a WarpSpeed threesome with BigGovt and BigPharma.

Big Ron just announced he's going after BigPharma and the TrumpSwampJabs.

Also, Ron was a founding member of the HFC - the only good people in Congress who saved us from TrumpRyanCare - despite Trump bad-mouthing the good guys at the time.

>> Never Trumpers are ex-Cruzbots.

FRiend, not all NeverTrumpers are “CruzBots”, and not all those who did (and do) respect Ted Cruz are anti-Trump.

I voted for Cruz in the primary, supported Cruz on FR (and got suspended for it).

I voted for Trump (or, against Hillary) “with reservations” in 2016. But by 2017, when he pulled us out of the stupid climate change pact, I was rabidly pro-Trump, and remain so to this minute.

I was willing to crawl through broken glass to vote for Trump in 2020. I deny that he lost in 2020 — rather, the election was stolen from him — and I’m not the least bit ashamed of that position.

I still hold that Ted Cruz is a great conservative leader and an excellent Senator, but Donald Trump is undeniably “Presidential material”, while Ted Cruz is probably not.

Agreed but that isn’t the way the left works.

There will be accusations, candid interviews with “victims” etc. etc.

The left will believe them as the Gospel truth.

To a leftist, the accusation is proof of guilt. Absence of evidence is absolute proof of guilt since there is a conspiracy to hide the evidence.

It’s coming...

To some extent I believe Trump was misled on the vaccine, but I am disappointed that he hasn’t changed his mind with all the evidence coming forward that the vaxx is neither safe or effective. I get the impression that science isn’t exactly his forte’ and he’s taking the more politically safe route by not challenging it now since many still believe in it. I’ve never thought Trump was perfect, far from it, he’s just the best of the bunch as far as policy is concerned.

Did you even read the list?

A standout specific was his Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the largest tax reform package in history. You may not have liked it but many consider it a major accomplishment.

What major economic initiatives do you expect DeSantis to produce?

DeSantis has been in elective politics since 2012. He's campaigned in five elections, winning all of them.

People will be suspicious of allegations of improprieties that are only surfacing now and that nobody ever mentioned before during his other campaigns.

Sure, liberals will believe them. Everyone else? Less so.

They may even backfire, something that Stormy Daniels and Michael Avenatti know all about.

Believing Trump was mislead is a convenient way to separate Trump from the vaccines. It is also very possible that Trump knows more about the safety and effiacy of the vaccines than those who are opposing the vaccines.

Despite that I support the most conservative person with the best chance of winning. I’m finding Trump is rapidly losing support and has little chance of winning. Most of this is his fault. His attempts to overthrow the 2020 election is costing him badly. He should be focusing on how to win 2024 rather than litigating 2020.

Right now, I believe DeSantis will be the nominee in 2024 because he represents all the good in MAGA without the egotism issues of Donald Trump. That said, I will still vote for Trump against any democrat nominee.

That state is lost. Just like AZ.

The reason that son of a bitch Kemp and his buddies did what they did is because that C-s*cker ran for governor while he was sec of state.

So the son of a bitch towed the party line so he would be sworn in and did EXACTLY what Katie “the c*nt” Hobbs is doing in AZ right NOW!
Kemp is establishment..as is Katie the C*nt.

DeSantis has to prove he is not following the “party” line IF he runs. And right now, he does not look to be avoiding the “party” payoffs at all. If he does run, and he throws off the Paul Ryans and Milt Rommbots, and all that scum, then he might get somewhere.
