What about the word 'endorsement' is negative or undesirable?

Okay, everybody knows the name of one of the largest cable TV and internet providers nationwide. For months now they've been running radio ads that (not surprisingly) tout their product. But oddly the very last words of the ad says; "not an endorsement".

So, old guy logic here, if you're paying for the snappy music and probably attractive young people voicing the whole thing, but you don't endorse it what are you trying to say?

If you were Smith running for office and I told Brown I endorse Smith for that office, it's like the nicest thing I could do for Smith. Right?

Other examples;
The newspaper has announced its political endorsements.
We're pleased that the project has received your endorsement.
Without official endorsement, the project cannot proceed.
Many retired athletes are able to make a lot of money by doing product endorsements.

It depends on the context of whats being endorsed and the nature of the endorsement.

Rush Limbaugh endorsing something conservative like Hillsdale College

Vastly different than Joe Biden endorsing taxpayer federally funded abortion

Point taken but we’re talking about a company here, (Comcast), if they don’t endorse the product is this some sort of melding into a public service announcement that you and I are actually paying for?

You're just old fashioned and expect words to mean something.
(Just Kidding.)
(Sort of.)

I’m not sure how that relates.

Yeah possibly woke lawyers? That’s why I’m done taking anyone to court anymore. It used to be fun!

So a broadcast radio station is paid to run an advertisement for a cable television station but it wants its listeners to understand that by doing so (playing the advertisement) it is not an endorsement (as in recommendation to try/use)…of the particular station or a competing communication media.

Maybe it is just that simple.

Please post a link to an example of one of the ads (or professionally or semi-professionally done transcript of the ad).

I haven’t heard any such ad, and quick internet searches don’t turn up any hits in that regard.

The only thing that comes to mind is with celebrity voice impersonators used in radio ads, and then the radio ad at the end makes sure to say that the use of the voice impersonator does not imply endorsement of the product by the real celebrity.

Just like tv ads have impersonators and beneath the impersonator pops up “actor impersonation, not really Donald Trump,” etc.).

So, an example, please, perhaps to help clear this up.

“If you were Smith running for office and I told Brown I endorse Smith for that office, it’s like the nicest thing I could do for Smith.”

Not if you were Jeffrey Dahmer or Adolf Hitler.

Many people pay for air time to get their product or theory out into the public. That doesn’t mean the network is putting it out there for themselves. And the network may not be legally allowed to represent their employees with the advertising of the product due to contractual limitations. Additionally, if someone pays for advertising Fiat and the show is sponsored by Volvo, this is their way of deflecting representation.

Besides, is it any different than the government not endorsing the vaccines by saying they could only be used in emergency cases and were not given an endorsement? Same/same.

I think it works both ways.

If you hate Comcast their silence may be taken one way.

If you like Comcast their silence may be taken the opposite way.

What about a transcript of the ad so as to provide context. I’m thinking something in the ad is not supported. But we “need more data” as #5 would say.

Ask the folks who were shilling for FTX. They were paid spokespeople. But did they endorse an embezzlement scheme? They would say, “No.”
