OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A wanted man hiding from deputies since Tuesday in a swamp near Yeehaw Junction has been captured, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

It was announced on social media two days after Osceola deputies said they had “exhausted” search efforts for the man, identified as Cory Philippe, 32.

According to photos posted to the sheriff’s office’s Facebook earlier in the week, search efforts began Tuesday while there was still daylight. The sheriff’s office sought Philippe in connection to an aggravated battery case.

Deputies searched wooded areas and vacant homes about a half mile east of State Road 60 and Sunshine Avenue. When the sheriff’s office said its search efforts would be dialed back, it reaffirmed that law enforcement would maintain a presence in the area.

As detailed in a news release, it was determined Philippe was hiding in a trailer located in the search area. An Osceola County SWAT team surrounded the trailer and eventually saw Philippe exit after team members deployed gas into the structure, the sheriff’s office said.

Phillipe is accused of beating his father with a blunt object. He was booked Friday, faces a charge of aggravated battery on a person 65 years old or older and has been given no bond amount.

in a swamp near Yeehaw Junction

That's all there is near Yeehaw Junction, which itself is essentially an old restaurant/motel called the Desert Inn (which is out of commission since a truck ran into it in 2019), and a BP gas station/convenience store that can handle trucks.

Warning to all: Stay out of Yeehaw Junction

I see a made-for-TV movie in the offing: The Macon County Yeehaw Junction Line.

A trailer in a wooded area is not exactly hiding in the swamp.

#4: "Yeehaw Junction, which itself is essentially an old restaurant/motel called the Desert Inn."

Setting aside the curious name for a restaurant in a swamp, how many Michelin stars does the Desert Inn have?

Exactly. I’d be afraid to hide in a legitimate swamp in Florida. I’d be afraid of being eaten by a gator, or a python.

You can evade gators and pythons. The mosquitoes on the other hand, will make you pray a gator comes for you.

I was in the swamp/woods near Yeehaw Junction about a month ago on a 1o mile hike. Before dawn and in the fog. It was eerie to say the least. Fit the definition of the middle of nowhere. A local hotel was called, the Heartbreak Hotel. The old Yeehaw Junction bar has fallen apart, which is kinda sad.

Adults *might* be able to evade a gator. Little kids, not so much. DEET works on mosquitoes. I don’t even want to think about pythons.

Sounds very interesting. Definitely a hike to remember. Got to keep your eyes open for gators!
