Distressing footage has emerged from a Chicago high school showing a teenage boy with Down syndrome being attacked by bullies, as other students film him and laugh.
Parents at York Community High School were told on Sunday about the clip, which was filmed on Thursday.
The superintendent of Elmhurst School District 205, Keisha Campbell, said they were 'deeply disappointed and saddened by the actions of this small group of students', and the principal vowed those responsible would be brought to justice.
The clip, shot by a student, shows the teenage boy with his book bag inside the bathroom, surrounded by a crowd of other teenage boys.
The disabled boy is shoved backwards and falls onto the floor, as the crowd hoot with laughter and catcalls.
Some yell: 'World Star' - a phrase that has come to mean a fight is being recorded and will be shared online, originally on the website World Star Hip Hop.
The boy manages to get back to his feet and run away, hiding in a bathroom stall.
The other students all laugh and jeer.
Campbell, in an email to parents sent on Sunday, said: 'Bullying, intimidation and harassment diminish a student's ability to learn and a school's ability to educate.

I went to private schools after 4th grade. Never witnessed a single example of bullying. Of course, we didn’t have sh!t kids from sh!t families there, but the idea that bullying is some natural state of humanity is BS.
The superintendent should be suspended without pay until each child responsible and family is doxed.
I agree completely.
I always thought that it served all involved much better to have schools, educators and facilities to serve those with special needs. Kids go to school for a purpose, socializing is a side dish.....not to mention that it’s often very cruel what they endure at least some of the time.
It’s nothing new. Where I grew up, about 40-45 years ago, this kind of thug behavior was a common occurrence among kids of every hue all over town.
I have had a lifelong hatred of bullies, and it stems from an incident identical to this one.
When I was 14 some jerks in the neighborhood were tormenting a kid with Down Syndrome who lived a couple blocks over from me. His sister was in my class, and he was a year or so younger than she was.
I had a paper route and his house was one I delivered to, so I knew him, because...well, everyone knew him. A nice kid, always happy.
So, one day these jagoffs started taunting him, shoving him, calling him “retard” and “spaz,” and just tormenting him. I saw what was going on and it was like a switch had been flipped, because I tore into them, fists flying.
Long story short, I got my ass kicked, big time. But I hurt two of them pretty bad.
Many years later, when I was in my late 20s, I dated a girl who had a Down Syndrome daughter. Just a sweet kid. And I remembered the incident of years before. And I knew that if anyone had ever tried to hurt her, I would probably end up in jail, because I would have done everything I could to destroy the bastard.
But thank goodness they’re not being exposed to any Christian teaching!
Look at the floor in this forced, tax paid government school. They teach these young shmucks to trash everything. Just throw it on the ground. Eff it. Hey, someone with medical issues, lets make him suffer!
These schools suck...They fail at the most simple things, like common sense, discipline and teaching subjects that matter. Total fail in every direction.
Or, their parents raised them to be bullies. Some parents want their kids to push other kids around. The parents are bullies, and they are proud their kids bully other kids.
I did not get bullied not for long if I could not handle him a new had a net work
I still remember Roberts Sperandio Mike Austin and Rip Dennis
Older guys who were bad ass and covered me
I was very tall so much older guys targeted me
I taught my oldest son when folks ridiculed him
Go up and hit the ring leader in the mouth make him bleed
Pay a price
It worked
The tony prep school didn’t appreciate but from fifth grade on folks knew don’t mess with him
It even benefited his little brothers
“Don’t eff with him Wade _____ is his big brother”
My number two son could fight anyhow super fast and likes the taste of his own blood
My daughter two is fearless too
My dad was like a doppelgänger for Jack Lambert the football player so no one messed with him anyhow except dad has his teeth
Been happening since the fall of man. Kids are cruel.
Really?
Then they’ll be expelled for sure.
He runs into stall and hides
Hey Biden did if it’s good enough for him it’s good enough for the kid.
Pop corn could snap his fingers and make Biden bark like a dog.
Agree!
I'm so glad Free Republic provides a dedicated Qanon thread for them.
The first time I had contact with a DS kid was 2017, when I was undergoing testing to be placed on the list for a transplant. I was at the hospital in a waiting room, waiting for my turn. In comes this DS young man who sat down opposite me, at another row of chairs.
Usually, people don’t talk to each other in these types of situations, at least I don’t. I tried avoiding eye contact with him, hoping he would do the same.
I looked up from the magazine I was looking at, and he was looking directly at me with a big smile on his face. I smiled back, looking down again at the magazine. Just then, he got up and walked towards me, extending his hand and said “Hi, my name is Dave!”
I stood up, shook his hand and said “Hi Dave, my name is-“
Just then, the technician came in and called my name, and in I went for my test.
When I came back out, he was gone. I never saw him again.
He didn’t have any qualms about being friendly with a total stranger, and I was struck by his innocence and desire to interact with me.
What really gets me is, the look on his face was sunshine, pure sunshine.
Total innocence. I truly believe that what DS people lack in dealing with the world may make them vulnerable, but what they have in abundance is something we’ve lost in living in our world.
God Bless him, I’ll never see him again. He left a big mark on me.
which is also why it made headlines...
Bullies raising bullies. Not much kindness in these households where these kinds of kids are raised. Parents must be monstors.
You were touched by an angel.
When I lived in the UK in the 90’s I worked as a volunteer in “Adult Education”. The majority were Downnies.
They were they sweetest people.
I would put my life on the line to protect them.
And God bless you.
I have a friend with a child who has severe autism.... He’s been against it from the very start... Sadly, he has been overruled and infuriated by the the woke crowd... Saying... ‘Everybody should be treated equally...’ His son has actual autism... Not a condition kind of like autism... Not ‘Asperger’s’ syndrome... Not something in between... He has full blown actual autism and his son was forced to go to school with monsterous ‘normal’ children... It’s just isn’t right.
