RIP to Mike Leach, the funniest, most creative, and most unique coach in all of college football

Rest in peace to one of the greatest to ever do it.

Mississippi State football Coach Mike Leach was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night and passed away shortly afterward on Monday night at the age of 61.

Mike Leach was more than just a football coach for an SEC team.

Mike Leach was an innovator. He was the man behind the Air Raid offense, which has influenced every level of football and can be seen every weekend from high school to the NFL.

But beyond his influence as an offensive guru, he was also one of the most unique and funny personalities to ever put on the coach's headset.

Mike Leach is known as the pirate because of his love of history and pirates in particular. He's a history buff and he got a law degree from Pepperdine before deciding he wanted to be a coach instead.

Over the last two days, tributes to Leach have been poured out all over social media.

Here are some of his off-the-field highlights that show just the kind of amazing human being he was.

There are SO many videos and stories of Mike Leach. I promise you, even if you don't care about football, you will love Mike Leach's wisdom about weddings, candy, weather, "The Price is Right", and generally everything about life.

[ - MANY, MANY TWEETS FROM PLAYERS AND COACHES ALL ACROSS THE SPECTRUM AT LINK. TOO MANY TO POST........ - Red Badger]

The man was funny, kind, and genuine always and a true football guy.

I couldn't leave you without two of my favorite Coach Leach rants of all time.

RIP to the pirate.

Without him we wouldn’t have Patrick mahomes. Kliff Kingsbury wouldn’t be coach of the cardinals. And we wouldn’t have Baker Mayfield for that matter.

He was indeed a wise man.

His understanding of weddings, from the groom-to-be perspective, was without parallel.

He was a character but he was also a winner - you can be eccentric when you win. RIP Coach Mike Leach. Sixty-one is young for these days.

Washington and Washington State Football teams were both without coaches and Leach was still out of work after he had got fired from Texas Tech.

UW passed on him because of that, but WSU didn’t care and hired him. As a UW fan, I was upset the Huskies passed, but when WSU got him, I was happy because the guy would definitely pump some much-needed life into Cougar football.

I have been following football in WA state for two centuries now. Well spanning the two. Mike Leach came in to interview for the HC job following the debacle of Don James abruptly flipping the finger to the Athletic Director for lying to him about sanctions.

They ran him out of town so fast, though they clearly loved his coaching history, style of play, and results. He did not fit into the Seattle homo, gender bending, fascist approving area. So he went to WSU, where they frankly were more sane, but zany at the same time. His press conferences were must see events, and the players loved him.

If only we didn’t have the Covid mandates, he could possibly still be alive. Maybe this will be the impetus to really investigate what is going on in that area.

I didn’t force the shots, and they are proven to cause clots, strokes, heart attacks et al. It is only a matter of time until we know for sure how many died earlier than they would have. What is that called? Oh yeah, excess deaths.

Anybody associated with a contemporary university who in a press conference can get away with talking about his players “fat little girlfriends” has to be somebody special. College football could use more pirates on the side-lines. RIP, coach.

We also wouldn’t have coach Lincoln Riley, whose QBs have won half of the last 6 Heisman Trophies (with a runner-up to boot).

Leach liked Riley’s football acumen, but the team told him he was no good. So Leach made him a volunteer coach as a sophomore. He went on to join the staff and at another school became the youngest OC in CFB. He did great at OU and in one year has turned USC into a winner. All from Mike Leach.

I highly recommend watching the clips. He’s quite the character. Again, RIP Mike Leach.

I did not know that. Leach apparently has a very good 'coaching tree'. Another part of his legacy.

More blood on Fauxi’s fingers.

Based upon recent photos, more likely related to his weight and obesity related ailments.

The guy had a long known heart condition.

Some people just live lives that are not going to last as long.

Yeah, Riley could have stayed at OU longer. And too bad KD left the Thunder. They both have great talent, but they won’t have respectful legacies, at least in OK.

Weakened immune system is very likely. 61 is pretty young even with a questionable heart. He was surrounded by athletic trainers, very likely the vax.

“Weakened immune system is very likely. 61 is pretty young even with a questionable heart. He was surrounded by athletic trainers, very likely the vax.”

And you probably believe the Justice Scalia was murdered even though he was severely obese and a heavy drinker and smoker.

FYI: Since long before the advent of the Covid jab, heart disease has been the number one killer of men in that age group. In addition, Mississippi has the highest number cardiovascular deaths among those ages 35 and older. Perhaps he lived as long as he did because he was surrounded by athletic trainers and medical people.

What does Scalia have to do with anything other than allowing you a snarky comment. Are you saying the shot does not cause sudden death or damage the immune system? Can you prove that?

I loved the story about the wrong number. What a character! I got to see TT play Minnesota at the Insight Bowl about a dozen years ago. It was bitterly cold that day in Tempe and we were thinking of leaving, but we ended up staying because of TT’s crazy plays. They came back from a 31-point deficit and ended up winning the game.

Leach was the college football king IMO and we’ll never see the likes of him again. May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
