Denver DA drops murder charge against security guard, says killing of protester was “legally justified”

DENVER (KDVR) — The decision to drop charges against Matthew Dolloff did not sit well with the family of Lee Keltner.

The Denver district attorney will drop charges against Dolloff, the unlicensed security guard who shot and killed Keltner.

“It didn’t matter what we said to the DA, they were not going to change their mind. They were not going to prosecute this case,” Keltner’s sister, Suzan Keltner, told “The Steffan Tubbs Show on 710 KNUS.”

The shooting happened during a rally in 2020.

“They explained to me that because my brother went toward them to tell them to get the camera out of his face, and because my brother slapped him open-handed, he had the right to feel fearful for his life,” Keltner said.

It happened during a demonstration where Dolloff was assigned as a security guard to a local news crew. The confrontation was caught on camera.

Couldn’t sleep and got up at 4am to tend the fire. Remembering things and thought of the (to me) cold blooded shooting of Lee Keltner. So I looked up what happened to that case.

That was a time when PLENTY of people were being maced and slapped by leftists so I was shocked when this so called security guard Matthew Dolloff shot a conservative protestor literally between the eyes because he was slapped and started to get maced. That was a criminal encounter but I don’t think it deserved a bullet in the brain. Such interactions were fairly common and few resulted in jail time. Especially in the constant riots in places like Portland.

The media portray Dolloff as a normal guy. I’m pretty sure he had “meth mite bites” on his forehead in his booking photo, although they could be just acne I guess:

His case was dismissed by a Democrat district attorney as justifiable self defense and the motion approved by a Republican nominated judge.

Despite the MSM, his current woman and his family his ex says he is a far leftist who joined earlier Occupy Wall Street protests with her and was rabidly anti-Trump and a Bernie supporter to boot.

Anyway sorry to post a story 9 months old but it was not covered here in the mid-west (not heavily at least) and is news to me.

If I were a family member I would have filed a wrongful death civil suit against the security guard, as well as, a prosecutorial misconduct suit against the DA.

It has some other troubling aspects. I believe for example the security company that hired Dolloff lost their license to work in Denver because Of this shooting.

It seems like someone approached a security guard, slapped the security guard in the face, and then got shot by the security guard.

I’m sure I’m missing something, but my foundational view is that self defense is a strong right, and if you hit someone, you might end up dead. So just don’t hit someone. Especially if they are armed and in uniform.

First of all I didn’t know I was giving an opinion to god and that’s not even what I said…LOL. It’s an opinion based on my personal views of right and wrong., my sense of morality of you will.

I admitted the encounter was criminal but I think excessive force was used. He was not being directly attacked by Keltner who had backed off. It appears he pulled the pepper spray out when Dolloff went for his gun. Perhaps Keltner pulled the mace first..?

What is a fact is Dolloff lied on his resume and wasn’t supposed to be armed, he knew he was going to be working in a tense situation. Why did he shoot to kill when he wasn’t being persistently attacked?

Answer because he was a leftist who hated conservatives and had just watched Keltner square off with one if his Allies in a heated argument.so he overreacted. It wasn’t murder, it should have been manslaughter. IMO

Finally you both seem to be ignoring the fact that hundreds if not thousands of people, guards and police were attacked by BLMTIFA during that time period and I can’t recall any of them getting a bullet between the eyes.

Sorry, but this sounds like a clear case of self-defense to me. Keltner assaulted him first, in the middle of a riot, and was responded to.

If the politics were reversed here, we'd be cheering the DA's decision.
