Michael Bowles’ mother, Eleanor, was his North Star.
“I was on my way to visit her for the holidays and got to her a few hours too late,” he said Sunday.
He found her dead in the garage of her home in a gated Buckhead community early Saturday evening.
Bowles’ death is the second homicide at a Buckhead residence in as many months and comes amid the Atlanta community’s ongoing efforts to turn back a rash of violent crime.

That flip to reposition his feet and reach the missed handhold was amazing… and obviously not the first time he had done it. He knew exactly where he needed to position his feet. Of course, free climbers have notoriously strong grip strength, too.

Ditto. I lived in a nice, but affordable apartment just off Pharr Rd. about a mile from where I worked. Early evening I’d hit Mike & Angelos, Dixie Tavern, Racoon Lodge for some food and a few beers. I was a little old to hang with the party crowd, but since they usually started showing up in force around 11pm, I was heading home by then anyway. I felt completely safe walking the side streets and alleys late night back then. Of course when the ‘urban’ crowd started showing up things deteriorated rapidly, but I had moved out by then.

BTW it has been noted that MARTA stands for Moving African’s Rapidly Through Atlanta. Not woke but not much of a joke. No wonder Buckhead wants to succeed from Atlanta. Don’t get me started on the crime that made the Braves move from downtown Atlanta to up near Marietta.

Reminds me of the back room of a waterbed store in North Bend, Oregon, back in the 70s.
Three years ago my son accepted a PHD program at Georgia Tech.
After about a month he reconsidered and got a job instead. His mother and I were both very happy when he chose to NOT move to Buckhead.

We'll probably got to a Latin American-style of gated community where entire towns are walled away from the outside, entrances guarded by security with machine guns, and have their own hospitals, restaurants, and shopping centers where the upper classes can reside in safety and comfort.

They need private security in those gated communities. Not the cops for an after action report.
