Very tall man encroached on other passengers' space, wouldn't allow a reclined seat
Users on the Reddit social media site have come to the defense of an airline traveler who informed a tall passenger during some apparently tense moments on board that he should have purchased additional legroom to accommodate his size — rather than infringing on others around him.
A Redditor who goes by the user name "Itchy-Smell8152" recently asked others in the subreddit "Am I the A*****e" (AITA) for their opinions about how he handled a tricky travel situation.
In essence, he was not permitted to recline his seat on an airplane because the passenger behind him was too tall to accommodate it

People have NO CLUE as to how cheap it is to fly, compared with the past. If they did, they’d realize that business/first class cost roughly the same (adjusted for inflation) as coach did 40+ years ago, when planes were far less efficient and carried far less cargo and passengers.
Today, we have Premium Economy, plus coach options (like exit aisles) which cost more than our super-cheap coach, but still less than what people paid in the past.
I kind of like having choices, rather than being forced to stay home, or drive (when possible).
I’m hearing impaired. When I’m around screaming little ones, I simply shut off my hearing aids, leaving them in to block the sound even more.
There’s at least THAT much of an advantage to being partially deaf🙂!
Your first sentence I don’t believe for one second is always true. There are plenty of overweight people who don’t overeat and really thin folks who eat whatever they want. It’s down to ones genes.
I wonder what professional basketball player go through? Do they have special planes?
Did you fly a red eye after Thanksgiving a few weeks ago? If so, you might’ve been the guy right behind me. I’m sure neither of us were comfortable.
Years ago I reclined my seat after the person in front of me reclined his seat. It was a night flight. The tall person behind me kept kicking my seat. I looked over and asked him why he was kicking my seat. He told me not to recline my seat because he was tall. I told him the person in front of me reclined, its a night flight, and he should have purchased a business class seat. I then reclined my seat again. He proceeded to kick my seat. My husband stood up, and told him if he did that one more time he would punch him. ( Not that my husband would). The kicking stopped, and I enjoyed my reclined seat.
I think the airlines should make seats that move forward, and then recline. It would save a lot of hassle.
As a previous aircraft design engineer you are correct. All structural requirements of seats, restraints, and weights are designed to a standard which no longer exists. Especially the fatties.
There was a time when reclining the seat wasn’t a problem because there was enough space to accommodate it. Nowadays reclining can trigger a Jerry Springer episode thanks to the rows being so crammed together, and of course the social graces aren’t what they once were either.
I will add that on the most recent flight I took the seats didn’t recline. They were fixed in place. It was a flight to Orlando on a budget airline with a fare well under $100 so I wasn’t really surprised, but I did note it.
Says the control freak who reclines with no regard to the person behind them.
There is only ONE way to get fat. That is to consume more calories than you burn. That’s it. If you are fat, you ate more than you needed to. That is a choice. If you don’t want to be fat, you need to eat less or burn more calories. Preferably both. Thin people can get fat. Fat people can get thin. To say anything else demonstrates complete ignorance about biology.
“Says the control freak who reclines with no regard to the person behind them.”
Freak? Certainly not. The seat recline button is in my complete control, as designed. I use it as i wish. You, my dear lady (if i may make a rash assumption) wish to bring the wrath of society down upon a poor sod who wishes to enjoy his miniscule recline because you do not want to give up “your space”.
You are the very embodiment of a control freak as are all your control freak friends on this thread.
Suck it up, buttercup. Life aint fair!
May the headrest of life knock some sense into you with a surprise recline!
Of course I have.
Exactly, nothing but hate and discontent can be gained by chastising a man after the fact.
Fat people choose? Not always. Illness leads to medicines that lead to round bodies too. There are many who are non voluntary, but you are right, MOST are hogs.

At least we now have a few more details on Brittany Griner’s flight back to the states.

😆 Great comment and I agree 100%.
Wing geometry would have to be slightly altered so that the flaps could be set to a more extreme configuration to prevent stalling at slow speed. We could also add a rocket assist take off.
It seems that it might be a civilized answer to the human cattle car airlines we have now.
No, I think it's a reflection of capitalism. The airlines have figured out that filling/cramming their planes with economy passengers produces a bigger profit than a plane offering more passengers space with resulting fewer passengers.
If you want comfort on a plane today, you go business or 1st class, which is considerably more expensive than economy. The good news is that despite cramped accommodations, economy tickets/seats are allowing more (lower and middle class) people to fly than ever before.
When passenger ships were the primary trans-Atlantic means of transportation before airplanes - a similar phenomenon occurred. The very wealth enjoyed 1st class luxurious and expansive service and the middle and lower classes (the poor and less wealthy) could only afford steerage accommodations.
I can’t remember the name but quite a while ago there was an attempt by a startup airline or maybe just one plane that was setup to be all first class seating and service. It didn’t last.
