Very tall man encroached on other passengers' space, wouldn't allow a reclined seat
Users on the Reddit social media site have come to the defense of an airline traveler who informed a tall passenger during some apparently tense moments on board that he should have purchased additional legroom to accommodate his size — rather than infringing on others around him.
A Redditor who goes by the user name "Itchy-Smell8152" recently asked others in the subreddit "Am I the A*****e" (AITA) for their opinions about how he handled a tricky travel situation.
In essence, he was not permitted to recline his seat on an airplane because the passenger behind him was too tall to accommodate it

As someone who is 5’18” I couldn’t care less if airlines went out of business. Or just put me on the no-fly list Please.
The air lines detest tall people and fat people.
YOu gots to be average. Do not stand out.
Sounds like Orwell 1984
Yet another reason I drive long distances instead of fly.
Too bad. You buy a ticket on a flying Greyhound and you can’t expect luxury. I had no idea you could purchase extra legroom, im sure this guy didnt either. Planes and airports are dehumanizing and plain awful.
Extra leg room = Business or First Class.
If you don’t fit in Economy, don’t sit in Economy. You can’t take your personal issues out on others.
FACT: ALL AIRLINES/AIRCRAFT.
The extra legroom is in the Window Emergency Exit Rows. Done to provide extra room for egress in Emergencies.
To the poster asking if he was the unreasonable one, I would say, yes you were being unreasonable. Once you saw the predicament each man was randomly stuck in, there was little to be gained by you “chiding” or fussing at the tall guy. Yes, it would have been wiser for him to buy a seat with more leg room, but this flight was only 90 minutes, so just hush and deal with it.
There should be no reclining.
They’ll blast at the tall guy, but say nothing to the 400-lb. pig whose mounds of fat spill over into the space next to them? As for the tall guy not wanting the one in front of him reclining, I don’t blame him a bit. Those damned reclining seats are a further invasion of already-scarce space.
I have a 34” inseam.
I don’t fly.
Problem solved.
I had the unfortunate experience of sitting behind a man on a small aircraft. Not only did he recline his seat, but he was also wearing a 10-gallon cowboy hat, which pretty much touched my face as he reclined.
“As someone who is 5’18” ...”
Are you being clever because you are really 6’ 8” ... or is that a typo?
He’s probably just being clever because he’s 6’6”.
I think somebody who fits out of the norm should bear some responsibility in ensuring their own comfort. If heavy-set people expect to pay for two seats, a tall person should be requesting a seat on the wing or emergency exit or in the front row of the economy class seats.
1’=12”. 18-12=6. 6’6”. And yes, I AM clever.
Fat people are fat by choice. Tall people are tall by genetics. The space behind your seat isn’t yours. It’s mine. End of debate.
On the other hand...
I’ve gotten stuck beside obese people ( it’s awful - when you can actually feel their blubber ON your seat!! )
and then, there are those crying babies....make ‘em stop !! ( we all put up with that )
the worst was someone beside me on an International flight, pre 2020, coughing, sneezing, nose-blowing, for 12 hours.
commercial airline travel is challenging...
You are forgetting about hypothyroidism. Yes it is xery real. And dangerous too.and very common. Many times drugs only help some of the symptoms.
Your thyroid controls everything.
So while it is popular and self-righteous to think fat people deserve total hate, scorn, pain, and misery, it is very ignorant of all the facts.
