Boys and men are in serious trouble
The Spec ^ | 12/3/22 | Jay Robb

In all 38 member countries in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, Reeves says there are now more young women than young men with bachelor’s degrees. Forty per cent of 18-year-old women in Britain head off to college, compared to 29 per cent of their male peers.

That gap is one of many warning signs of a male malaise, especially for boys and men at the lower rungs on the economic and social ladders. “Things are worse than I thought,” says Reeves, a senior fellow in economic studies at the Brookings Institution. “I knew some of the headlines about boys struggling at school and on campus, men losing ground in the labour market and fathers losing touch with their children. I thought that perhaps some of these were exaggerations. But the closer I looked, the bleaker the picture became.”

How bleak? Deaths of despair from drug overdoses, suicides and alcohol-related illnesses are nearly three times higher among men than women.

Once a woman gets her Masters in Marxist Veganism, is there even a legitimate, profitable career path available?

If fewer young men (then women) choose college, is that necessarily a bad thing? Maybe there’s more money in the trades

I fully agree. The article is using college education as a gauge for success. My brother and his two sons work in the commercial HVAC industry and never saw a day of college. Yet all three of them make significant salaries. That is also a male-dominated profession. You just don't see many women wanting to work in tight and dirty spaces.

Electricians, plumbers, high rise construction, the list goes on of male dominated jobs that pay much more than men with liberal arts degrees.

A lot of what is discussed here is also a catalyst for the demographic winter.

I’m a philosophy major who ended up doing circuit board design and radiation effects testing. If i was of college age today I’d consider auto repair or being an electrician.

That’s because the education system has become totally feminized.

A good decision.

We’re sort of opposites but the same.
I went to UF for EE, but read philosophy on my own...

Men have the common sense to avoid these hotbeds of castrating Marxism.

College is not required anyone to make a good living…Elon Musk proved college graduates were not much use unless the had practical knowledge working in there areas..had to steal people from existing aerospace companies…

“But what’s the breakdown on STEM majors?”

One thing I noticed while watching the Artemis coverage is that they have women yakking on TV while the guys are running the mission.

I did philosophy because it was interesting. I’ve had a number of very different jobs because they’re interesting. I guess my unofficial motto is “Never take a job you’re qualified for because you’ll be bored.” Not exactly true, but I’d rather have a steep learning curve than tedium. I made it 26 years in a technical field, not bad for a guy who topped out at Algebra 2 while Nixon was President. :)

“Reason is the cost of college as opposed to the opportunity in major US corporation for white males (or rather the huge bias against them in hiring and promoting decisions).”

I totally agree. Another factor in STEM jobs I am seeing is that they are organizing projects into teams so they can select a team leader who gets credit for any successes of the team regardless of what is contributed.

That’s very solid. I’ve been all over the map too.
I get bored, and I like learning.

The trades are overlooked quite often. No one wants to get their hands dirty, it seems. Trades are really what keep this country going. Engineers, carpenters, welders, auto mechanics, machinists, etc.
Good money to be made.

There’s degrees and there’s degrees. My guess would be 80 to 90 percent of degrees today are useless pieces of paper in some abstract field of study that has no useful benefit to society. Basically a liberal.

“In the USA, college football is the main source of revenue that supports ALL of the women’s programs. Title IX killed most of the other men’s sports program (besides basketball). “

That’s very true.
