Answer: Government-imposed CAFE standards, the standards which ostensibly mandate higher fuel economy.
They’re available, I have a 1999 Suzuki Carry that gets 55-60 mpg, has a dump box & 4 wheel drive. It’s more useful than a side by side, and 1/2 the price. I still don’t consider it a truck, but it will do what you refer to. Check them out!
As they came on the used market, they were bought and shipped to Africa. To Liberia and to Nigeria.
I have seen the trucks that would not actually run literally pushed into a 40 ‘ container Africa bound. They were parts on wheels
Thank you! Saved me some keyboarding time.
This globalist loser thinks it is “fine” to make it in Mexico, a narco state, and import them into thr USA under cutting US workers. Stopped right there.
“because of the “chicken tax” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tax“
Thank you so much for that. The things you learn....

With our new crop of illegal aliens from south of the border all driving around drunk in their big Chevy pickups, I’m going to want to drive a truck even bigger.
these Kei trucks are extremely cool!
In a free market, intelligent people evaluate their needs and buy vehicles accordingly.
The free market has been gone for a long, long time.
Sounds like you're in the market for a mini trailer. Why buy, register, and insure a separate vehicle when you really only need to haul household garbage once a week?
My wife and I just returned from Argentina and Uruguay a few weeks ago. Those Hilux pickups are everywhere, and yes, they get great mileage. Unfortunately, they sell their diesel by the liter...
Yesterday, I was watching an auto auction, however and one of the cars auctioned was a Range Rover Pick up..
I get a bit of a jealous twinge when I see a nice condition Ranger PU on the road. The Maverick and Colorado are more like a midsize. I had an 89 Ranger and loved it. Granted, it didn’t get great mileage (4x4) but with up to date engineering a similar sized non hybrid truck would definitely have a market if it’s economy was 5-7 MPG better than the midsize
There's a lot of vehicles the EPA, CAFE and NHTSA say we can't have (for our own good). Diesels are long lasting and fuel efficient. We can't have that. Must make disposable autos. Do it for mudder erf.
Back in September my wife and I ordered a Maverick Lariat with the off road package (Tremor) with the 2.5 Eco-boost engine. We were told it would be at least 6 months before we would get it.
The salesman when it comes in and I don't want it I would get my deposit back. The salesman told me they would add $10,000 to the price and sell it!
I suppose most folks have realized by now that if somebody comes out with a durable, low priced small vehicle someone comes along(likely the government) & puts a stop to their manufacture or importation.
It HAS to have electric windows. Electric door locks. Auto headlights. Back-up camera. Radio, GPS? etc display console. Electric seat warmers. Push button open hatch. Remote start. Air monitoring tire pressure. Multiple computers to run EVERYTHING on the vehicle. And that costs money. Can’t live without it.
