He dumped himself.

Newt was my congressman and we reelected him by a landslide.   He clobbered the Democrat.   Then only weeks later his scandal came out and he turned tail and took off for parts unknown.   The least he might have done is resign the Speakership, but to leave Georgia and never to be seen again?

Also, Newt's mistress-wife is a cold fish.   His ex-wife was a good woman.   I got to talk with her for awhile at one of his rallies, along with the old CNN reporter Bob Franken.

LOL   I had some fun with that too.   Bob Franken was taking credit, while they were standing around the kitchen table one night, for suggesting to Newt that he write a book which became "Window of Opportunity: A Blueprint for the Future."   I started talking about reporters telling lies and Marianne Gingrich was agreeing with me.

Later on Bob Franken walked by me and said, "you know I'm a reporter too", and I emphatically said, I know!   He walked away in a snit.   I'll laugh at him till my grave.

sat with Nancy Peyronie

Yeah, maybe they can be co-speakers. You did mention you would "compromise," didn't you?

Happy couple of DC insiders who live high at our expense....

Both: “I won’t tell you were the one who passed gas.”

RE: Is Jimmy Carter still alive?

Answer: In a manner of speaking. As with Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Gingrich defended Biden recently....fr.m The Hill and Washington Examiner
“We dislike Biden so much, we pettily focus on his speaking difficulties, sometimes strange behavior, clear lapses of memory, and other personal flaws,” he said.

Gingrich’s comments come after Democrats outperformed expectations in the midterms on their way to holding their majority in the Senate and only narrowly losing control of the House. Republicans hoped to make sweeping gains in both houses of Congress, but many candidates lost in key races.

He said Biden was able to get trillions of dollars in spending and a series of “radical” bills from a four-vote majority in the House and a tie in the Senate, where Vice President Harris serves as the tiebreaking vote. He added that the president has also ensured that U.S. weapons and financial support help Ukraine cripple Russian troops who were invading.

Gingrich said Biden and Democrats carried out a strategy of “polarizing” Americans against supporters of former President Trump. He said they turned the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection into a “crisis” and exaggerated the threat to abortion rights after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

He said the Biden administration had one of the best first-term midterm elections in history, and the GOP needs to look “deeply” at what worked and didn’t work in 2020 and 2022.

Question - if a non sitting member is elected speaker - does the speaker then
get to vote? That would essentially add an additional voting member?

Newt got the Trump treatment from the media which forced him out back in the day. “He wants to take away your social security and throw old people out on the streets”

Just what we need. Another fossil in charge.

Why not Lester Wolff?

“Why must everyone be a geriatric?…”

I agree and I am a “seasoned citizen”. Newt is 79 years old. Can’t we find someone in their 40’s or 50’s who has the energy to handle a difficult job and push a conservative agenda while reaching out to younger people?

No, the Speaker would not have a vote. Similar to the British Parliament their Speaker is not a member of the House of Commons by tradition and has no vote. He also has different powers than the U.S. version.

To tell you the truth, I have nothing useful to counter the suggestion.
I’m not a half full glass right now…

I know she’s a newcomer, and not polished, but MTG would be running a tight ship. There’d be no chance of her looking the other way when it comes to the Biden Crime Family, and the treason of Barr, Wray, etc.

I don’t think Newt was very effective. There was one interview where he claimed not be able to resist Bill Clinton when they met in person. I found that a pretty shocking admission.

Why don’t we just back McCarthy?

We can rebel after he lets us down.(Which he will)

Conservative fantasy world needs to realize that who ever you like in Congress is bought & paid for just like McStupid is.

The wildcards also can’t get a majority of support within the party.

No, the GOP couldn’t wait to get rid of him, even though he’d gotten most of the agenda through. It was a non-scandal about a perfectly normal payment for his book, but the GOP simply fled because they were actually embarrassed by the fact that he had dared to oppose the Dems and succeeded. He was really public enemy #1 to the media in those days.

When he talked about running for President years ago, I remember all the Freepers came out and screamed that they couldn’t possibly vote for a man who had been married three times, regardless of his political principles.

I don’t know about the personalities of any of his wives, but that’s not relevant at all.

I think he’d be a good Speaker (at least for the remainder of the Biden term) because he knows the game and if it hadn’t been for the usual wussy GOP, he could have accomplished more excellent things if he had been allowed to continue.

That said, I don’t know if he is even interested (I doubt that he is) and this is all speculation.

I just hope we don’t end up blowing our chances and getting a wuss in there (or keeping McCarthy, unless somebody can hold his feet to the fire).

Let Newt write his books and be a talking head on TV. Nothing more beyond that at this point.

Nancy is smiling in that pose because she knows she has her gotcha. Newt is smiling because he is clueless to the evil beside him.

He probably was the last effective GOP Speaker, but he wasn’t ideal and his moment has come and gone.
