My mom used to make the best.
Apple CRUMB pie. With winesap apples (Stayman). They’re the best apples for anything. But so rare to find these days.

I too am a from scratch pie baker. Do you use leaf lard in your crust (the 3/3/3 combo - 1/3 butter, 1/3 crisco, 1/3 leaf lard)?

My dad was also known for his apple pie! His secret was mounded high thinly sliced Granny Smith apples and along with the necessary cinnamon, lemon juice and flour, he added a splash of brandy or Courvoisier Cognac. Everyone loved them.
