Volcano knocks Mauna Loa carbon monitoring station offline
Associated Press ^ | November 30, 2022 | Seth Borenstein

The eruption of Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano has temporarily knocked off power to the world’s premier station that measures heat-trapping carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, but officials Wednesday say it won’t be a problem.

There are hundreds of other carbon dioxide monitoring sites across the globe. The federal government is looking for a temporary alternate site on the Hawaiian island and is contemplating flying a generator to the Mauna Loa observatory to get its power back so it can take measurements again, said officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Monitoring Lab in Colorado that operates the station.

The Hawaiian station goes back to 1958 and is the main site for the famous Keeling Curve that shows rising carbon dioxide levels from burning of coal, oil and natural gas that tracks with rising temperatures. Levels of carbon dioxide at Mauna Loa have increased 33% since 1958. *

The station at 11,300 feet high (3,444 meters), has a 131-foot (40-meter) tower that collects air to measure levels of carbon dioxide, radiation and other materials. Even though the flow of lava isn’t near the station it cut off power lines further down the mountain, officials said. …

Re: CO2 satellites

Ten years ago, and possibly more, NASA launched a CO2 measuring satellite that failed to reach its planned orbit, and was a complete loss.

At the time, I was pleased, because I assumed the fix was in for alarming measurements.

Looking back, I wonder if NASA was fearful it might undermine the CO2 narrative.

> Of course, since Kilauea is located thousands of feet lower than the MLO facility and is usually downwind, it couldn’t possibly be a factor. Right?<

I wonder if they are going to place the gasoline powered generator upwind or downwind of the sensor? SMH

“I wonder if they are going to place the gasoline powered generator upwind or downwind of the sensor?”

Perfect question to ask these idiots.

Years ago the Air Quality district put a “smog” monitoring station next to a sewage lift station. Guess where the “smog” always was!

Surprise! Carbon is a natural occurance on this planet.

Surfing channels last night and heard some news bimbette (CNN?) during an interview about this volcanic activity ask, “...is there some way to prevent, predict eruptions?”

Thats right. Geological history shows this as a fact. The Peisticene is an example of just that. High atmospheric carbon created the most lush environment in the history of the planet and then we moved on.

There was no end point for life. There never is, only change and adaptation to change. Those who do not adapt to change, like these green new deal nuts? They disappear. I am looking forward to that.

Shouldn’t the environmentalists be throwing themselves into the volcano to prevent the eruption?

The solubility of CO2 in water is inversely proportional to temperature

Since CO2 is soluble in water and the oceans cover a majority of the Earth's surface, the oceans sequester more CO2 than any other CO2 sink.

Because of the inverse solubility of CO2 with temperature, the colder the oceans get, the more CO2 they can absorb.

Conversely, when the oceans get warmer, they expel CO2.

Atmospheric CO2 therefore follows global temperatures, it does not cause them.

You can see the yearly global atmospheric CO2 fluctuation as the oceans warm and cool with the seasons in the NOAA graph below.

The "settled science" that CO2 causes "climate change" is therefore criminal sophistry.

Lol. How much CO2 is being spewed out from the volcano?

“ Never mind the carbon they’ve been measuring that’s been coming from the mountain at a constant rate even though they don’t admit it.”

Bingo. I’ve been saying this for years.

No different than putting CO2 and temp sensors by the exhaust vent at a Greyhound bus station, as they did in Pittsburgh, PA.

Indeed you want to see carbon wait until my 500 brothers kick it up a notch.

They do think they’re gods, don’t they? Several cubic miles of lava (with the associated gases) come out of the volcano per hour and they think they can “prevent” that.

Heard that WEF has directed Biden to print 100 Trillion dollars to fill all of the Hawaiian volcanoes and Yellowstone NP with concrete. Printing presses are going full tilt as we speak. /sarc

BTW, Klaus is in DC as we speak. Just who might he be meeting with????

Sadly, I can’t remember which channel or who it was. The absolute stupidity of the statement caused an involuntary reaction that had me continue to press the ^ button....I was just so flabbergasted!!
