When the 2022 World Cup made its debut on Sunday, it kicked off one of the most significant in-game uses of technology in sports history.
All tournament long, match balls will contain a sensor that collects spatial positioning data in real time — the first World Cup to employ such a ball-tracking mechanism. This, combined with existing optical tracking tools, will make VAR (video assistant referees) and programs like offside reviews more accurate and streamlined than they’ve ever been. Combining these two forms of tracking has long been a holy grail of sorts in technology circles, and FIFA’s use of the ball sensor in particular will serve as a highly public test case over the next four weeks.

LOL!!!
YOU’RE SICKER THAN I AM! I ONLY LAUGHED AT THAT! YOU THOUGHT IT UP...AND THEN POSTED IT!!!
ALL HONOR TO YOU!
No, you're not. I couldn't give two hoots about soccer. I'm a college football fan.
Go, Trojans! Beat the Utes!
“I’m I the only American That doesn’t care”
I don’t know. I’m you?
The what?
I’m with Hemingway: “The only true sports are mountain climbing, bullfighting and motor racing. All the rest are just games”. i.e. if you can’t get killed doing it, what’s the point?
No.
Kinda rooting for USC so the Huskies can go to the Granddaddy of Them All.
Eventually everyone will have a chip implanted in the brain. No slacking by athletes will be tolerated. Thoughtcrimes will be punished by our overlords.
My son in law played soccer all thru HS and college and loves it. Playing it is certainly much different then just watching it and gives you a different outlook.
...I’m still staring, waiting for it to go metric... waiting... waiting...
It was even better when they had banked oval tracks.
Personally, I am not worried. I am old enough that I will not be around to see such horribles if they come to pass.
Care about what?
I don’t care beans about soccer. I do, however, have a former co worker, in the Middle East, on military duty, who saw two games in person, USA vs Wales and USA vs Iran, so he saw the US team beat Iran. He is not a soccer fan either, but he said it nice to be able to see a world event in person, though he said he wouldn’t watch it on TV. What I thought was ironic, however, is that he sent me a short video (USA vs Wales) and it looked like the stadium was almost empty.
I’ve recently started following the twenty-20 format of cricket and, really, it is fascinating and far from boring.
It seems that cricket has a lot of formats
the one we knew were the 5 day long matches - kind of boring
then a one day match - faster, but still with dull moments
This one is done in about 2 to 3 hours and it pretty much non-stop excitement.
Soccer is kinda boring, yeah
"Can’t understand the interest in soccer It bores the crap out of me."
The only real excitement or anticipation nowadays with soccer is which player gonna drop dead on the field from his vax shot.
These guys don’t like it either.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJu2qSJ9zno
You don't care any more about grammar than you do about world cup soccer.
Ditto
