One just stumbled into a trial period of Sirius XM.
Any recommendations?
Astute political/historical/current events talk programs?
New music? Contrast with the same stuff on the FM dial... all genre considered...
Comedy, just for fun, etc, lest one lose one's sense of humor listening to the news?
I’ve had it for about 5 yrs. I enjoy it.
A day or 2 before your free trial is up, call them and say you’d like to cancel. They’ll offer you different packages to get you to stay, coming down in price a few times. Eventually, they’ll give their best & cheapest to keep your business. It’s usually for 6 mos and then you play the same game again. At their cheapest rate, I think it’s worth it.
How do you get Pandora on XM?
Get the app on your smart phone.
There are a zillion channels you can stream that are far better than the generic channels.
Also, some of the channels are hyper-focused, such as the surf guitar channel (twang...)
Howard Duff’s Sam Spade is one more liked show.
Actually, I've been paying only a little over 5 bucks a month. Just tell them that you need to cancel unless they can give it to you at this price. I've been paying that amount, with modest increases, for over ten years.
When I first heard it at a New Year’s Eve party 2002/2003 I thought I died and went to heaven. I subscribed shortly thereafter and was enthralled by the electronic music like the Vortex, and of course the less heard obscure rock. I scan stations endlessly, on radio or Sirius, so I notice they grab handfuls of a particular artist and place songs on the most appropriate channel simultaneously. I always thought that was kind of lazy and reflected 20-year-old clueless DJs.
THEY HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SUPPORT EVER of any company I have ever dealt with, since 2003. I’ll go without Sirius 6 months or so, then say f**k it and subscribe again. Each subscription option is detailed on their website, but expect convoluted descriptions.
I don’t find Sonnie all that conservative.
My $.02 - enjoy the free trial and prepare yourself for a never ending email campaign to win you back. And if you liked it, go for it. They eventually offer deals like $5/month and probably better after that.
I didn’t enjoy Sirius XM, the channels I listened to seemed to play the crap over and over. I already have Spotify, and it integrates with my vehicles audio systems very well. I really like Spotify, more so than pandora or Amazon prime music.
Spotify is on my phone wherever I go (and have an Internet connection). Extremely flexible to create my own playlists in the phone and web apps. Curated playlists as well as playlists from millions of other uses with similar interests. “Daily Mix” playlists Spotify’s computers create for you that do a good job of finding new music you will like. All sorts of podcasts, although I use the Apple Podcasts app for podcasts, essays, book reviews, history, news, etc.
Very limited classical selections the play lists are repetitive. Jazz is a bit better. Dozens of repetitive rock stations that all sound alike.
Porn
Vulgar comedy.
And you pay for it all
I’ve had it for about 14 years.. watch the pricing. After arguing I finally got it for $7.99 a month per vehicle. I’ve got 2 with it plus I can listen home as well.
I don't, either. And she doesn't have the greatest radio voice.
I wish the Patriot channel would stop having reruns on weekends. There’s nothing older than yesterday’s news.
You’re not kidding.
The best thing about XM/Sirius is that it doesn’t use data like Spotify. The worst thing about it is that the signal is highly compressed, so the sound quality is really lacking. If you’re not worried about sound quality and/or you’re worried about hitting data limits for streaming services like Spotify, it’s worth a look. You can probably get a month or so for free on a trial basis, but bear in mind that they make it very difficult to cancel.
Channel 67, Real Jazz. Christian Mc Bride hosts a weekend program called the Lowdown, with stellar guests. Highly recommended.
Wilkow Majority and Stacy Washington on Patriot 121. First Wave on 33.
I mean 125 oops
I let my trial Sirius subscription expire. I could never find the music I like on the Sirius channels. I have an Auto Alexa linked to my phone and Pandora. I can get pretty much whatever music I want by voice control.
If you can’t stand having an Amazon device, you can load your music on a USB memory stick. Most cars these days have one or more USB ports. I can use my Ford voice control to access the music. Just be sure to format your USB stick to FAT-32 before loading your music from your computer.
I have Sirius. I don’t think I have paid more than $90 a year inc. the Licensing Fee by calling them and negotiating. I believe one year I didn’t even need to call, I did it on line. I don’t have the top tier plan as I have no desire for Howard Stern.
Many artists have their own channel. Beatles, Tom Petty, Pearl Jam, U2, The Grateful Dead. I enjoy BB Kings Bluesville. And it’s pretty trippy listening to PGA Golf Tournaments play by play on radio.
