Travel at even a small percentage of light speed would require the expenditure of as much energy as it would take to blow up several Jupiters. A hit by even a minuscule particle of space junk would be fatal.
The distances of space preclude such visits. Who would go exploring on a thousand year one way certainly fatal mission and why? JMHO
Most current thinking on this subject is that the “aliens” are not from distant stars, galaxies, planets at all.
They are here—right in front of our noses—no travel required.

However, it may be possible to FTL travel because there are laws that we do not yet know or understand that allows things like warp bubbles.
Btw—one of the more amusing issues that is documented is how the CIA reacted to drafting random citizens (well soldiers, actually) to make contact with the aliens.
Their human resources department concluded that it violated the agency’s ethics rules—all individuals must be volunteers.

You're thinking interstellar when you should be thinking interplanetary. Or even closer.
Although I am fully convinced that, until the coming of the Christ, that God is keeping us separate from the rest of the universe. So any contact is, by default deceptive.
Having said that, I would volunteer to meet them in an open room just to talk. I would not volunteer to take a ride into orbit lest I am not returned.

Unfortunately they do not “just talk”.
They use telepathy, they lie a lot, and they have no hesitation in warping your perceptions and memory.
One of their favorite tricks is to convince you that they have an urgent message to be shared with all humans—and you are the chosen person.
After they have tricked you into believing their nonsense you then go out and tell everyone you know until you are a social outcast, fired from your job and declared crazy by everyone you meet.
You do not want to go there.

One advantage I have over most people is a deep knowledge of my unimportance. That tactic would be useless against me.
I’m sure, however, they know me better myself and know the tactic that might work on me.
They are (obviously) lying. Of course it would be unethical, but that sort of thing has never stopped all kinds of really shady &@$t in the past 80 years.
