Tax prep websites have been sending sensitive financial data to Facebook

Meta's Pixel tracking tool is causing more headaches, this time for people filing their taxes online. The Markup has discovered that large tax prep services like H&R Block, TaxAct and TaxSlayer have been sending users' sensitive contact and financial information to Facebook through the Pixel. This sometimes included income data, filing statuses and even kids' college tuition grants.

Intuit's TurboTax also uses the Pixel to send data, although that's limited to usernames and the last sign-in dates for given devices.

You don't see ads for TurboTax on Facebook if you already have an account, for instance. TaxAct is also delivering financial data to Google through that company's analytics tool.

Why would they do this?

Perhaps money is involved?

One would think this would be rather illegal.

Remember when the left was constantly talking about “consumers” and “consumer protection” ? Long time ago.

I have never trust anyone of myself to file online.

Unfortunately my last few returns have been lost in the mail or destroyed.

So I file nothing. No options anymore.

Deep down in the user agreement there’s probably a clause that gives the company the right to do this. I’m not saying this data sharing is a moral thing to do. It’s not. I’m saying those guys probably covered themselves legally from the get-go.

My taxes pay for abortions and for Nazis at war, and Joe Biden’s crime syndicate. They pay for the international/internal travel and support of over 4 million border invaders, who can and will now send for the rest of their families, who will all live on American backs..

The reality is that the people who made this happen, judges, politicians and bureaucrats, should be banished, after they’ve lost everything as restitution to the victims, the American people they were supposed to serve and protect.

I use Turbo Tax but don’t file online: I print the return and mail in the hard copy. I suspect the IRS isn’t too happy about this method of filing.

Wonder what the CIA and FBI want with it ... civil asset forfeiture scams and raids on Conservatives?

This isn’t good, especially to the extent people chose not to have their data shared.

I’ve only ever submitted my taxes by paper return. Would never do them online.

These companies may be sending the data to Google despite you not sending the return online. You finish the return and you print it out to mail it by these companies just send the data to Google anyways with you not informed.

(short version)
I used to be one of the people behind the scenes of tax prep software. There were times when we had the full database of clients from our customers and their info electronically filing or not. Unless your service used only books and pencils to prep then your info is likely out there.
