Fiero is a hero. Hopefully he also learned that a gay club is not a good place to bring one’s wife and child.
I am on my laptop and went to the NT Times website via the hot link.
Once at the NY Times site, I clicked the icon in the laptop’s search/tool header bar for Enter Immersive Reader (a small “open book” image) and that opened up the article in its entirety, bypassing the pay wall.
It’s a new discovery for me and may hold the key to bypassing most if not all future pay walls that I encounter on the www.

This is a wonderfully well written article that explains all the questions, such as why was a combat veteran at a gay club with his daughter, and this hero’s history and thought process as he underwent this experience. Very well worth reading to the end.
