There are hundreds of openings for electrification, self-driving, and machine learning jobs at JLR that could be filled by former Twitter and Meta employees.
f you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you may have missed Elon Musk's Twitter takeover and subsequent jettisoning of hundreds of employees. It wasn't just Musk's new Twitter, though. There were big layoffs at Amazon and Meta, too. Thankfully for those employees, though, a new home might soon be available, as Jaguar Land Rover is looking to scoop up many of the software engineers let go by those aforementioned companies.
According to a Reuters, Jaguar Land Rover is looking to fill nearly 800 jobs in England, Ireland, the U.S., China, India, and Hungary. As JLR is looking to become an EV-focused brand by 2025, it's looking for talented people to help develop electrification and self-driving tech, as well as machine learning and data science. Most of the jobs will be in England, split between the Gaydon and Manchester facilities.
Jaguar Land Rover Chief Information Officer told Reuters that these job vacancies have existed for awhile but were hard to fill, due to the competitive nature of the industry in those fields. So when hundreds and hundreds of talented software engineers get fired or laid off by some of the biggest tech companies in the world, JLR sees an opportunity to fill its vacancies.
While Jaguar Land Rover as a whole won't entirely become an electric brand by 2025, Jaguar itself wants to be an all-electric brand by 2024. At the moment, Jaguar is a very long way off of brands like Tesla, Lucid, Ford, Cadillac, Mercedes, and BMW, in terms of electric tech, range, and efficiency. If it wants to truly become a world-class competitor by 2025, it's going to need some improvements in its range and both battery and thermal management software. And with hundreds of qualified employees suddenly being thrust into the marketplace, it looks like Jaguar will be able to get all the help it needs.

Real engineers must feel stupid, having taken rigorous college courses that were totally unnecessary.

I’ve got a vision of a Land Rover suddenly throwing a Twitter-fit: The vehicle starts shaking, the doors lock and the sound system starts screaming obscenities at the driver for the next 30 minutes! Then the engine dies and requires a factory reset, plus requires your next election ballot filled out for Green candidates....
There is another point: Your Land Rover or Jag will monitor all speech inside the vehicle. Any remarks supporting Trump, nuclear energy or even hinting that blacks are not The Supreme Race will result in an immediate full stop and the engine won’t turn back on until JLR technicians confirm the driver has been re-educated...or the car given to a POC who has non-binary sexual preferences.
As long as they are not expected to actually work, everything will be fine.
Pretty stupid. Do they really expect spoiled snowflakes to actually do some work? They’ll quit on their first day when they can’t get their carmel cinnamon latte’s free in the cafeteria.
That may be an improvement over their current cars.

Continued misinformation about those being laid off. They aren’t software engineers, they aren’t technical folks. They’re censors and “QA” types. Basically jobs your mom could do.
Great the next time I go to buy another Landrover I will see a “No Trump Voters” sign on the door. Of course if the landrover’s are all electric I wouldn’t buy one anyway.

I’ve had amazing luck with both Range Rover and Jaguar.
Put 150k miles on the big Range Rover and never did anything but tires and fluids. Great handling truck. Looked new when I traded it in. Wife same with the Jag F-pace.
I do not understand people that continue to purchase these horribly unreliable vehicles. It is one thing if you live in Detroit and several of your friends and family are in the union. Then you buy a Ford or GM product.
What I do not understand are people who buy Jaguars, Landrovers or Fiats. These have been by far the worst vehicles in reliability for the last thirty years. I read Consumer Reports survey results you referred to putting Mercedes in last place. I have not bought anything other than Toyota, Honda, Lexus or Ford since 1988. For me or my wife/daughter and son.
My 24 year old son just bought his first brand new vehicle. A Honda CRV. The other vehicles he considered were a Toyota RAV4 and a Toyota Camry. He previously owned a Subaru Impreza. It was fine until 100K miles.
I have been considering buying a older Mercedes SL 500 or 550. Something from either late 1980s or 2004-2010. Now I am having second thoughts about post 1980s. The late 80s models were still all made in Germany.
My boss has had Jags for over 30 years.
They spend a lot of time in ‘The Shop’.................

Jaguar can hire them but they better not expect them to work more than an hour or two a day and definitely not expect them to come in to do that little bit of work.
I would never hire an ex twitter employee. Lazy, entitled, Marxist, and worthless for life.
Im on my third Land Rover product with the same experience as yours, no problems, just basic maintenance; tires, fluids pads, filters. But all the car gurus here know better.
