“Independent” is just a play for power in and of itself.
How in the world is that? I’ve never been “pandered to, discussed and courted for ‘favors’.” Nobody even knows or cares, as far as I can tell. I don’t discuss it in real life.
I’ve been ‘independent’ for 50 years. It has nothing to do with ‘power’, but with the simple desire to not be officially affiliated with any party.
Now I see why you called my personal thoughts on idependents nonsense.

Well, I’m not left-leaning; so your link means nothing to me. I’ve voted Republican all of my life, except for two times when I was disgusted with everyone in the two parties who was running.
Do you vote Republican no matter who is running, and no matter what they’ve done previously?
That seems no different from the knee-jerk democrats that I know...
I never said specifically you are left-leaning. “most independents are.....” was the operative phrase. That said, the preponderance of ‘independents’ experienced with being seated in Congress and being left-leaning is unmistakable and beyond the “knee jerk” reaction you ascribe to it. You can take that however you want, but there it is.
“respectable” white people are the one’s who live above it all. Their voting choices are a superficial thing where things like, “he doesn’t mean Tweet” and “I support choice for women (not having a clue what that means)” are the kind of things that shape their vote.
Life for them is dropping the kids off at school or a sport. Yoga and latte with the gal pals. The consequences of their vote doesn’t quite touch them.
But it is getting closer and closer to touching them. Very soon, their kids who they drop off to sports will be dead from fentanyl, beaten by gangs, etc. Their car that they love to drop said kids off in will be stolen, their house broken into etc.
I am seeing signs of this happening where I live. It is starting to impact. But they just haven’t quite made the connection yet. They will sometime when they are wondering how little Susie Soccer Star ended up in rehab.
