[Unions work to get wage increases, and for more/higher benefits. All of that makes things a lot more expensive for consumers. But, unions and union members don’t care, as long as they get theirs, and what they also get is the higher prices that they force on every company and stores and services. But, they don’t think about that. It’s sheer ignorance.]

They know what they’re doing. It’s thuggery with the connivance of the state. Mafia thugs have to carry out their shakedowns not just with threats of violence, but actual violence as an example to those who would resist. Union thugs never have to get their hands dirty - the state threatens to close a business down if it does not submit. The beauty of state coercion is that Starbucks could in theory be forced to operate the location at a loss, subsidized by the rest. Whereas the Mafia doesn’t have the reach to follow business owners everywhere they operate.

Can a company close a branch or location just for unionizing?

No. Closing a location and firing its employees just for unionizing would be a violation of the National Labor Relations Act of 1935.

What Woke Company would do that?

Gee, wouldn't such a move effect their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) score? Would banks stop lending, would investors sell their stock?.

I still recall my first cup of coffee at Starbucks. I am an Ethiopian fanatic. Ordered Ethiopian, got a cup. It was so burnt I couldn’t tell what I was drinking. I marched out of the place, got a sign that read, “Starbucks unfair to coffee drinkers.”

“Closing a location and firing its employees just for unionizing would be a violation of the National Labor Relations Act of 1935.”

What a joke that is.

Any company can wait a few months and crank out some “analysis” to justify closing any location.

If it is an amazing performer they might have to suddenly have a massive increase in “employee theft” out the back door...

;-)

Unions built America!

That’s why union membership has declined for 40 years. They got tired from all that “building”.

I understand that 40% of Starbucks stores are franchise operations.

I wonder if this one was. A single store or small group of stores couldn't charge customers enough to cover the additional costs of having staff unionize.

It's a coffee shop. The trendy one down the street with the local art on the walls is cooler anyway.

For "grab it and go" coffee, well, "America runs on Dunkin'".

“Now they are blatantly union-busting at one of the busiest stores in my district.”

Somebody has to do it.😀

Are Starbucks franchises or are all stores owned by the parent company?

As per Wiki

As of November 2021, the company had 33,833 stores in 80 countries, 15,444 of which were located in the United States. Out of Starbucks’ U.S.-based stores, over 8,900 are company-operated, while the remainder are licensed.

“Unfortunately, this is a pattern that is playing out across the country”

hmmmm. maybe these coffee clerks should think about that “pattern” BEFORE they vote themselves out of a job ...
