NEW YORK - The most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows over seven in 10 U.S. adults aged 20 and older are either overweight or obese. The problem is bigger in some states than in others, though. WalletHub took a closer look in their list of 2022’s Most Overweight & Obese States in America.
West Virginia was ranked the most overweight state, followed by Mississippi and Kentucky. Colorado finished as the least overweight state. Here are the rankings across the tristate area:
Connecticut: 38 overall, 33 in obesity and overweight prevalence, 37 in health consequences and 38 in food and fitness.
New Jersey: 40 overall, 42 in obesity and overweight prevalence, 25 in health consequences and 37 in food and fitness.
New York: 44 overall, 43 in obesity and overweight prevalence, 38 in health consequences and 27 in food and fitness.

Agreed...an interesting 'oversight' on the part of the med establishment.
Where does the state of Free Republic stand in the rankings?
This exactly. Any exercise, especially by a male, outside of being on a sports team is considered “vain, gay, silly, etc.” I’ve worked out intensely since I was a teenager, it’s always been the fat body slobs who can’t do a single pull up who talk the most trash.
I’m 5-6, 155lbs.
By the BMI calculator, I’m obese.
I do believe at 122lbs, the bottom of the “normal” range I’d look like a POW survivor....
Hi.
Here comes a “racist” post...
Black women have most of their ancestry from Africa. That includes Somalia, Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia.
Here goes...
Why are most black women overweight?
And many have an entitlement attitude and a bad disposition.
Be advised, my wife is black.
5.56mm
Overweight and obese won’t be a problem much longer at this rate Biden will have people eating bark off trees the way he spending.
It’s gotten a little bit better, but 30 years ago, it was really bad. You are right, some people actually considered it indicative of homosexual leanings!
I’m in MT now and if you want to properly enjoy what the state has to offer such as back country hunting, fly fishing, hiking and skiing you can’t be obese. There’s also a mentality of “physical readiness” among the males here, at least in my age group.
And one more thing I have observed when I go back to Alabama...I really think a lot of the culture looks at men being overweight as signs of being successful, and living a good life with your family. Almost, like they have inverted what is considered attractive there.
Sodas are ‘deadly’. The ones with artificial sweeteners are bad as well.
My elderly dad wants to lose some weight - his knees are ‘gone’ and he’s carrying extra poundage. I calculated the carbs in what he was drinking ... OJ first thing in the morning (8-12 oz), LOTS of milk during the day (we should have a cow - he grew up on fresh milk & can never get enough), & juices like cranberry, apple, & prune juice. It amounted to at least 300 carbs/day, just with what he was drinking, much less eating.
So .. he agreed to some steps to reduce those carbs and is now limited to a cup of OJ in the morning (his “treat” - won’t give it up totally) & a bit of milk on occasion. Other drinks are all ‘lite’ or ‘diet’ now. We’ve encouraged him to drink water every other time he’s thirsty, which he’s doing. He’s on diuretics, so he’s thirsty a lot. The food he’s getting is mostly ‘real’ food ... salads, meat, low carb veggies and for treats, a few fruits, sugar-free ice cream.
He was 228 .... stepped down to 218 & now he’s around 210. This is with NO exercise (can barely walk to the bathroom) ... he’ll be 100 next month.
If people cut out 3 things: vegetable seed oils, sugar, processed food, they would most likely lose weight with no exercise required. The soda habit is terrible and a hard thing to break (I had a Diet Coke habit back in my 30’s when I had a high stress job). Now, I do not do ANY soda - coffee, cold-brew tea, mint herbal tea & an electrolyte drink I mix for myself. Saves a lot of money, too.
Interesting theory and one that probably has truth to it. Not the first time in history that obesity was seen as a sign of success or wealth, especially among poorer societies.
Alabama was #3 in 2020. We’re on a state diet!
Yeah Tennessee is number #6, but in our defense, Southern cooking is great!!!
And while YOU know this, others may not:
Shop the PERIMETER of your Grocery Store. Even places like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are set up to have the ‘real food’ around the edges and the junk in the middle.
Black women are the fattest by race and gender, according to your data...
The Deep South has more blacks, proportionally, than all the other states, and half are women.
Another thing is it is very hot and humid in the long Dixie summer. Too hot to work out outside. If it wasn’t for A/C, I would have moved years ago, at least in the summer—becoming a reverse snow bird!
We’re in WV. My husband gained weight when he was not working from home. Ladies here love to cook and feed everyone they know, including co-workers. I worked at a bank for a while, and instantly started gaining weight. They had potlucks every 2 months. It was crazy! Almost mandatory the way you were nagged, “What are you bringing?” Even the kids here are chubby.
Yup, and poverty was a big thing. With it came foodless nights and hunger. Welfare and food stamps changed all that.
There is no hunger in the USA anymore.
Good one - totally true!
And yes, I do shop ‘perimeter’ .... mostly make a beeline for the meat to look for ‘manager’s specials’.
I like the summer heat. It keeps the relatives away.
