Jewish actor converts to Catholicism: the Virgin Mary ‘is my most beautiful love’

The famous Jewish actor and humorist Gad Elmaleh, beloved in France, announced his conversion to the Catholic faith, a process in which he says the Virgin Mary played a crucial role.

Elmaleh, 51, was the partner of Charlotte Casiraghi, the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco, with whom they have a son named Rafael.

His conversion to Catholicism is depicted in his new film, “Reste un peu,” (“Stay a while”).

The Jewish actor, who according to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo will take the name of Jean-Marie when he is baptized, has studied theology in Paris, and in 2019 he participated in a musical in London about St. Bernadette Soubirous, the visionary who saw Our Lady of Lourdes.

Elmaleh told the French newspaper Le Figaro that “the Virgin Mary is my most beautiful love” and expressed his surprise that in France the “vast majority of Catholics don’t live their faith openly.”

As a child, he recounted in the interview, he entered a church and saw an image of the Mother of God.

“It wasn’t a vision, just a simple statue, but I was petrified. I began to cry and hid for fear of being discovered by my family, for fear of curses and superstition. I kept it a secret for my entire childhood,” he recalled.

...I choose that division will not divorce me from fellowship with other Believers.
By Believers, I mean those who Believe that Jesus is the Christ and that through His life, death (sacrifice) and resurrection, we are saved from hell and promised eternal life in heaven.

I applaud your ecumentalism here, but how do you fellowship with those who adhere to a LOT more 'doctrine' than what you've written here?

All people have free will. She consented to what God wished for Her.

She could have kicked and scream: to no avail.

Your sentence is rigged and dishonest at its core.

It's not "Extra Stuff that Rome failed to put into the Book" -- that formulation presupposed Sola Scriptura.

It's not "needed to get a person to Heaven" -- it's an extra channel of Grace; an opportunity, not a universal requirement.

Although it might be highly efficacious for some.

That she is higher than the angels (and worthy of our veneration).

That's the problem with Sola Scriptura.

(It doesn't allow you to infer anything, even what's most obvious to all.)

Answer the questions: Why would Mary give her assent to the proposal Gabriel delivered, if her consent wasn't needed? Why does Scripture record that Gabriel's departure took place after Mary consented to the plan described to her?

So; you are admitting that the EXTRA stuff that Rome requires is NOT needed??

That she is higher than the angels (and worthy of our veneration).

'Tis amazing that she never gets mentioned after she is placed into John's care.

Well, except in the Koran.

“That she is higher than the angels (and worthy of our veneration).”

Maybe it isn’t Elsie who’s the one doing the trolling.

Unless a thread is official Catholic Caucus, it’s a discussion thread.

Well, if I am required to read Mary's mind, let's see what I can come up with...

1. Who knows what goes on in the logic of a woman's mind.
2. She could consent or not, it WAS going to happen. That's what the angel spoke BEFORE she ever said anything to him (it?).

These angels are pretty smart dudes - Just as the angel foretold, Elizabeth conceived. While she was pregnant, Mary, the expectant mother of Jesus, visited her. The baby in Elizabeth's womb leaped for joy on hearing Mary's voice. Elizabeth gave birth to a son. They named him John, as the angel had commanded, and at that moment Zechariah's power of speech returned.
