From Uggs to low-rise jeans, the fashion world is seeing a resurgence of questionable trends from two decades ago. Now, it seems as though the thin, heroin-chic body of the 1990s and early aughts is also making a comeback.
In early October, Bella Hadid closed out Paris fashion week at Coperni, her tiny form nearly naked on the runway as a dress was spray-painted onto her skin. Days later at the Miu Miu spring 2023 show in Milan, waifish girls paraded down the runway with bared midriffs, some of them modeling the “micro-mini” skirt for which the label has recently become known. Meanwhile, supermodel spawn such as Lila Moss (daughter of Kate) and Kaia Gerber (daughter of Cindy Crawford) are further evoking the ’90s with both their famous moms and their supremely svelte figures. Not everyone is happy about the trend.
“Please, I am so tired of this. I know we’re all pretending this isn’t about bringing back thin worship or whatever but I can’t keep doing this,” fashion writer Tyler McCall tweeted in exasperation.
The skinnies sashaying down the runway are a drastic shift from the “slim thick” and body positivity that had been in vogue in recent years with womanly ambassadors such as Lizzo and Megan Thee Stallion putting their full bodies on display.
Even the famously bootylicious Kardashians seem to be turning away from curvy physiques. Kim and Khloé are looking increasingly skinny of late, leading fans to speculate that they’ve reversed their Brazilian butt lifts — though it has never been confirmed either had the procedure to begin with. At the Met Ball in May, Kim boasted her dangerous diet which had her shed 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress.

He was trying to make a legitimate point that no one else was willing to vociferously side with, which was that the horrific fashion magazines of the 80s and 90s were pushing the unattractive anorexia look, which no real man actually finds attractive. Looking through ancient, classical, and Renaissance art and sculpture, women with curves have ALWAYS been what men want.
The horse faced anorexics that were pushed on us as “attractive” in the 80s and 90s, whether it be Callista Flockhart, Rene Russo, or any of the other numerous examples never held a candle to Ava Gardner or Rita Hayworth.
The Kardashians can at least be given some credit for bucking that trend.
Most modern fashion and beauty paradigms are constructed by gay men and demons like Anna Wintour. It has NEVER been about what men find attractive.
Give me post-fight career Gina Carano any day of the week over Bella Hadid or Emily Ratajkowski.

I’ve always thought Renee Russo was & is one of the most beautiful women around. She has said she was made fun of for being so naturally thin.

We’re all human and deserving of care. Both obese people and physically fit people are good for customer service, if they dress appropriately and behave nicely towards others. But who is more healthy and attractive, the moon pig or one who can run like a deer?
I’m an outlier on several others, specifically Heather Locklear and Michelle Pfeiffer; I never thought either of them was particularly attractive.

I think Ella Emhoff makes it a point to try to look as fugly as possible.
She can clean up well when she wants to.

I like Burt Reynolds. I do agree he is saying the truth but I would personally never say something like this, especially on air, because it would be unkind. I mean, yes the girl needs to hear it, and maybe he thought of it that way, but not in a skit on air. But I’m sure Reynolds felt not a part of that group and kind of talking to maybe his crowd. Perhaps never considered her at all and felt yeah, well, if your a druggy and look like one why shouldn’t I tell the truth.
And I can’t blame him. But part of me cringes for her. Who knows maybe it woke her up.
