A passenger on an El Al flight to Bangkok, Thailand, lit a cigarette in the plane's bathroom during the flight, and threw it into the bathroom garbage when he had finished, Israel Hayom reported.
Other passengers, who smelled the cigarette, alerted a stewardess, who entered the bathroom and found the cigarette in the trash.
The staff used the fire extinguisher, even though a fire had not sparked in the bathroom.
The incident took place 1.5 hours before the flight landed in Bangkok. Flight crew confiscated the cigarettes and cigarette lighter, and El Al has promised to take action against him, in accordance with the accepted protocol.
In a statement, El Al said, "A passenger on a flight to Bangkok was caught smoking in the plane's bathroom, and afterwards there was a concern that a fire might have sparked in the bathroom. The air service crew and captains immediately and cautiously dealt with [the incident], by using the assigned fire extinguishers."
"The flight continued on as usual and landed safely in the Bangkok airport. The passenger was warned and the issue has been sent for further examination ...

Thailand?..........................
What kind of low life idiot throws a cigarette butt in a trash can in an airliner?
He should have to walk home from Thailand.
Maybe he’s a democrat. Never underestimate their stupidity.
When the flush toilet ... Was. Right. There.
Nerves anticipating first Pat Pong experience
This has so much comic potential - Israeli’s love of smoking. A guy wanting to sneak a smoke on a plane and doing something incredibly stupid in throwing a still burning butt into a trash can full of paper. Then then story taking on ridiculously outsized international importance.
It is rumored that passenger knows Paul Pelosi.
I was a flight attendant and during part of our training, we watched a video about someone who threw a cigarette in the trash of an airplane in flight. The burning cigarette went between the garbage can and the wall, igniting the insulation or other parts of the plane. The crew couldn’t find where the fire was as it was all in the walls. The pilot landed safely but for some reason, felt safe enough to slowly taxi to an area where they finally stopped and opened the doors to evacuate. The influx of oxygen ignited the fire, causing an explosion where lives were lost.
I had several bathroom smokers who were met with LE when we landed. All were begging prior to landing, ‘I promise I won’t do it again, just let me leave the plane when we land.’
Nah... you are going to have a long night ahead of you. Don’t forget to bring your checkbook.

Smoking, choosing trash can over toilet… I guess he wasn’t Ashkenazi if you know what I mean.
I’m stuned!.......................
When I took my first ever flight, on a Douglas DC-8 from Denver to NYC on August 28, 1961, the stewardesses were passing out small boxes of cigarettes. That was a long time ago and, seemingly, in a galaxy far, far away.
“1961, the stewardesses were passing out small boxes of cigarettes. That was a long time ago”
They were probably stunningly beautiful and friendly as well.
They better hurry up and invent a time machine—I want one and I want it now!
Fly Singapore Airline or Cathay Pacific if you want good looming flight attendants. They do their job interview jn a bathing suit. I kid you not.
Indeed, they were!
Musician Stan Rogers died on that flight. :(
Its the end of the world as we know it.
Smoking on a plane. On the way to Thailand. Probably watching porn along the way. Sounds like Hunter Biden.
It didn’t say the butt was still burning.
Still stupid thing to do from beginning to end. Should have just brought some Nicoritte gum.
