Here in North Idaho, we've had a really warm Fall (15 to 20 warmer than normal) until last Thursday when it dropped 20 degrees. The warm weather was wonderful while it lasted. Our spring was cold, wet and very delayed. It's like spring was 3 weeks late arriving and now fall is 3 weeks late arriving.
The warm weather is gone now, we had our first good storm, and there are another five brewing in the North Pacific / Alaska headed our way.
We've got some great color around us now. The snowline in the mountains is around 3,500 - 4,000 feet now and the mountains are covered. The ski resorts are getting ready to open.
We haven't had much leaf drop yet, but our huge Ponderosa Pine is letting loose all of it's five year old needles now and the yard is covered. Time to get the blower out. The Trumpet Vine on our pergola still has all of its leaves as does the ginkgo tree. The big cherry tree out front still has green leaves, too, but it's the real messy one when they drop. Usually takes about two weeks to get it all cleaned up. The aspens are starting shedding their leaves now at a furious rate.

I took a great tour of the fall colors in the Shenandoah Valley last weekend. My tour began with a 20 minute flight in a small plane at which point I deplaned at 10,000 feet and hurtled to earth watching the colors. A mile later, the parachute deployed and the tour continued for the next few minutes.
