A 50-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the Delphi murders of Libby German and Abigail Williams.
Richard Allen, 50, was taken into custody in Indiana on Friday. It remains unclear what exactly he has been charged with.
The girls were murdered in 2017 after arranging to meet a man on abandoned train tracks in the town of Delphi.
Their murders remained unsolved for five years. Allen's arrest is the first time his name has been publicly associated with the case.
Allen's connection to the girls remains unclear, and police say they will not hold any kind of press conference until Monday.
He was initially booked in to the county jail but was moved to a state facility shortly afterwards out of fears for his own safety.
In December, there was a flurry of excitement over the case after cops tied a fake Instagram profile of Anthony Shots to the investigation into the murders.
The person behind the account was Kegan Kline, who was 22 at the time of the murders and was arrested a month after them on suspicion of child porn possession.

Was big news here in the North East Felt so bad for the two girls. One of the last things they did was take a photo of their killer.
As I recall they had some contact over the internet with the guy. The girls trusted what was said, and it wasnt.
Shocking 13 year olds would want to be a 46 year old creep.
Then again he might have stolen a picture and appeared to them as a nice 14 year old boy.
Portland is dumping their homeless criminal element in rural small town communities. Lot of people not walking their dogs in the public parks there anymore.
Be=meet…typo.
Exactly or he could have said he was one of the kids from their class.
Let's hide behind the chain saws!
Now I wish they could find who murdered two girls in 1961 Carlsbad NM. The whole city was on edge for months after that.
It’s somewhat local news to me. My granddaughters were living in Delphi at the time this happened
I sure hope they got the real killer and have enough to make the charges stick
We had 2 unsolved , unrelated murders near a tiny town back in the 70s just 30 miles from where these girls were killed
State cops were desperate and even harassed me and my buddies for years, despite us having airtight alibis for our whereabouts when both killings happened. But they sure made our lives hell for a while
30 years later, the murderer was finally caught, trying to attack another young woman, and finally confessed to killing several in other nearby states
Turns out, he had eluded capture for all of those years by being in an Illinois prison for 20 years on other charges
I’m confused. All this evidence is against Kegan Kline but Richatf Allen is the one they are kicking up?
I’m right there with you. Never heard of it.
I suspect I must be the only one who has never heard of these murders. Therefore I guess I stand alone in the nation for not being gripped by this crime.
I remember.......hope that vermin burns in hell
Looks a bit like a certain Senate candidate...
But my post was really to mock the sensational headline that the nation is gripped by it. Unfortunately, crime is so rampant that these crimes are no longer as sensational as they once were. Still as devastating, however, too common place to remember all of these crimes. If you know what I mean.
I’m not from Indiana, just follow certain cases. This one there is a possible indication the police screwed up, or it could just be a disgruntled former employee who says they did not listen to his suggestions...
I agree
It happened just as Trump was taking office. The media was too busy trying to get him impeached.
But those who pay attention to crime knew and saw it in the other media.
The one gal’s sister said she was chatting with someone online who she apparently thought was a teenage boy, but it wasn’t.
You can raise your kids however you want, folks, but if you want for them to keep out of trouble until they leave home, don’t give them cell phones and supervise whatever time they spend online. (Yes, the one little gal’s cell phone vid is probably what caught the guy, but SHE SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN MEETING SOMEONE LIKE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE.)
You can get a pager for your kid so they can get in touch with you or emergency services. Kids don’t need cell phones.
