Anti-freeze hotdogs will solve this problem. Had to take matters in my own hands once.

The only dog that ever bit me was a poodle.

The dogs were a German shepherd and an English mastiff, according to another article:

The problem is that sometimes delivery drivers and mail carriers are required to deliver something directly to someone’s door. They know those “beware of dog” signs protect the owners from lawsuits, but so many houses have those signs, and the delivery workers and carriers have a job to do.

Awful. Arrest and prosecute the dog owners. I have a Pit mix (part Catahoula). Smartest, sweetest dog I’ve ever had or seen. Everyone who comes over wants to take her home.

That is what I said... They think they are exempt from the legal warning.

No, I don’t think so. Delivery workers and mail carriers simply don’t have a choice. They are required to make deliveries, even to houses with “beware of dog” signs. They might carry pepper spray or doggie treats, but still they are bitten, or worse, even when the dog owner is present. And certain packages must be delivered to the door.

I know of a house where the dogs have attacked multiple delivery workers. The dogs run in and out of the house when the owner is not home. There’s no physical fence (only an electrical one). But, the owner has never been penalized because he has signs posted.

What I’d like to see done: If a dog bites a delivery worker or mail carrier, it should be euthanized, and the owner should be fined heavily and forced to pay the medical bills (or charged with murder, if the dogs kill someone).

I know all about it. I was in the garbage industry for many years. These are high risk jobs but property owners have a right to protect their property when posted.

I've only been bitten once in my life and that was by my roommate's doberman.

In defense of the dog, the roommate was a monster when it came to disciplining (beating) the dog.

I had to eventually move out.....

This was back in the mid to late 70's. He was a Vietnam vet (medic) who today would have been diagnosed with severe PTSD...

He was always hyperactive and kinda crazy with occasional anger flare ups. About two years after I moved out, he died in his back yard of an aneurysm.

Garbage workers should be able to do their job without being bitten, too.

Sure, people have a right to protect their property, but they should be held responsible when their dogs bite.

The neighbors even came over and said they were glad the dogs were they b/c they kept coyotes off of their property too. Still, every insurance company said no.

Why would the insurance companies care that the pit bulls kept coyotes away? If the dogs maul someone, coyote-deterrence is not a mitigating factor in a lawsuit. Probably hurt your friends' argument because insurance companies know that most dog breeds that are successful in deterring predators have a high degree of protectiveness that frequently makes them aggressive toward strangers.

Our delivery drivers carried dog treats. The dogs loved to see them coming up the driveway. One dog would occasionally get in truck and not get out till he got treats.. I’m sure they loved our house😄

Awww... that’s cute. Most dogs are nice to delivery workers and mail carriers.

Then again, I know several carriers, and they all say the dogs that bit them were sweet until that one day.

But, many dogs greet them in a friendly way.

In a pitty rage? No. They stop when you don’t move anymore. And they will wait to see if you do not move.

Pepper spray only works if you have someplace to retreat to. Inside, over a fence, top of car, inside a car. You also have to have time to retreat. Pepper spray is a distraction of about 10 seconds for a pit. Then they are even more enraged.

That is awful. I see what you mean. Once pit bulls are triggered extreme measures way beyond pepper spray are needed to stop them from attacking.
