No, I don’t think so. Delivery workers and mail carriers simply don’t have a choice. They are required to make deliveries, even to houses with “beware of dog” signs. They might carry pepper spray or doggie treats, but still they are bitten, or worse, even when the dog owner is present. And certain packages must be delivered to the door.
I know of a house where the dogs have attacked multiple delivery workers. The dogs run in and out of the house when the owner is not home. There’s no physical fence (only an electrical one). But, the owner has never been penalized because he has signs posted.
What I’d like to see done: If a dog bites a delivery worker or mail carrier, it should be euthanized, and the owner should be fined heavily and forced to pay the medical bills (or charged with murder, if the dogs kill someone).
I know all about it. I was in the garbage industry for many years. These are high risk jobs but property owners have a right to protect their property when posted.
Our delivery drivers carried dog treats. The dogs loved to see them coming up the driveway. One dog would occasionally get in truck and not get out till he got treats.. I’m sure they loved our house😄
