Red Bull owner and co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who once claimed to drink 10-12 cans of the beverage every day, has died at 78.
Mateschitz accrued an estimated fortune of $24.65 billion throughout his career and was widely known as the richest man in Austria, Reuters reported Sunday. He passed away following a battle with cancer Saturday. Mateschitz built the Red Bull brand from merely an energy drink to the multi-billion dollar cultural giant it is today, sponsoring high-octane sports events, both fringe and mainstream, across the globe.
Red Bull first entered global markets in 1987 after modifying the recipe for a Thai energy drink, but the company wouldn't break into the U.S. market until 1990. While the company had a rocky start, it soon entered a stride and enlisted an Austrian marketing company that eventually coined the company's famous slogan, "Red Bull gives you wings," according to Reuters.
Today, the company sells nearly 10 billion cans annually, a third of which are purchased in the U.S.

Mateschitz had been an investor in the Sauber F1 team, then funded two teams, Red Bull and Toro Rosso, all by his lonesome.
He at least lived long enough to see a Team Red Bull driver cinch the 2022 World Driving Championship title.
He also paid €70m to have the Österreichring F1 circuit updated, after which it was renamed the “Red Bull Ring.”
And of course there’s the the X-Games (& Travis Pastrana), Red Bull autocross team, the Red Bull air races, and the Red Bull aerobatic team (which does barrel rolls and loop-to-loops in BO-105 helicopters).
Pretty much if it goes fast, makes noise and runs on dead dinosaurs, he spent money using it to advertise.
I’m pretty sure he slid through the pearly gates going backwards, with his hair on fire, a smile on his face, and thinking, “Woo-hoo-hooo, WHAT a ride!”
She’s the girlfriend, Marion Feichtner, aged 39 (exactly half his age). More power to the man, God rest his soul...
That is one incredibly handsome older gentleman. It’s rare that the women get eye candy, so thanks!
Steve Jobs followed a strict vegan / fruitarian diet. The fructose blew out his pancreas and wrecked his liver.
Cancer knows no age restrictions and no amount of money can cure everyone or Rush, Steve Jobs and many other would still be living.
Are “energy” drinks anything more than caffeine ?
He was an incredibly powerful voice for freedom and against the vaccine and vaccine mandate in Austria. He was personally responsible for firing multiple US executive level employees at Redbull when he found out that they were woke. We lost one of the good guys.
that was his WIFE?!?!? I thought that was his grand daughter!
Try the kidney stone diet. My daughter has has kidney stone problems since her youth and had to go on a diet to eliminate calcium oxalate, little less pricey than yours but, dang, the pounds melted off (for me, wife and I did a sympathy diet with her).
His name evokes absolutely no unpleasant associations for German-speakers.
Regards,
Yes, he was reviled as a "Schwurbler" (crazy conspiracy theorist).
Regards,
I love Krating Dang
Lipo is even better
M-150 !
Apparently he didn’t get vaxxed at all.
Sorta wrecks the narrative, doesn’t it?
78 isn’t a bad run.
The evidence these days is that longevity is mostly genetics. One can eat “right” and do everything else, but when the body gives up, you’re done.
Thanks..... I take back the vaxxxed part.
In 2020 Redbull fired executives who tried to make the company woke.
I had never tried a Redbull prior to this event. It is now my extended drive drink. It tastes like liberal tears
7k is about 4 miles, thus a mile every 15 minutes. That is a
good pace imo. After a few days it becomes normal and not
that hard to do.
Thank God I am not a Kraut!
“I stopped lifting and went home and watched tv, while laying on the floor for a couple hours...”
I had the bright idea to drink one before a 3 mile jog. Half way through the jog I just crashed and burned. Had to sit down for about 15 minutes and then walk back to my starting point. It seemed to suck the energy completely out of me. My one and only experience drinking one.
