Putin’s War in Ukraine May Destroy Russia
wsj ^ | 20 oCT 2022 | Michael Khodarkovsky

The Western media for decades has hailed Vladimir Putin as a great strategist. But if the past eight months have proved one thing, it’s that this strategic wizard often achieves the opposite of his intentions.

...Mr. Putin should look to history. During World War I, Russian authorities tried to conscript Muslims from Central Asia. The result was a major uprising in summer 1916, which took months and tens of thousands of Russian troops to suppress. In the end, none of the Muslims were sent to battle—and, by withdrawing army units from the front to confront the internal uprising, Russia expedited its eventual defeat. Less than six months later, the czar and his government were forced to resign.

By sending poorly trained non-Russian men to Ukraine, Moscow may soon meet a similar fate. Centuries of pent-up bitterness and frustration over rule by Moscow may spill into a military confrontation and civil war. Given Russia’s current military defeats, this isn’t a distant prospect. If and when that happens, Russia will fall apart as the empire of the czars and Soviet Union did. It would be ironic if the man who wanted to revive the U.S.S.R. instead ushers in the twilight of Russia’s last empire.

—”The escape for these Russian dumba$$es is to declare victory and go home.
But Putin is a petulant child and won’t do so.”

When Putin’s view and that of his generals, his boyars, and oligarchs separate, things will change, and perhaps not for the better.

Putin may want to fight to the bitter end, but the others not so much.

Centuries of pent-up bitterness and frustration over rule by Moscow may spill into a military confrontation and civil war.

This bitterness and frustration over being ruled by Moscow is why the Czech Republic, and Hungary, and Poland, and Bulgaria, and Estonia, and Latvia, and Lithuania, and Romania, and Slovakia, and Albania, and Croatia joined NATO. They don't want to be ruled over by Moscow again either. And it's why that after Putin attacked, the Ukrainians are fighting back.

I hope the war doesn't spill over into these other countries.

[ A lot of “Russian” petroleum & natural gas actually comes from majority-Muslim areas like Kazakhstan]

Why share the pie with russia? A Caspian pipeline could go through Georga. I guess then russia would have to annex more of Georgia.

Did you hear that the real reason behind why Israel will not supply Ukraine with military hardware?

“I was shocked hearing the #lviv oblast was declaring 2019 Stepan #Bandera year”

A series of letters, from the #Polish and #Israeli embassies in #Ukraine protesting the #Zelensky governments decision to pass laws commemorating #Nazis. They were sent only 2 years ago.”

Thousands of Russian serfs dying in the mud of Ukraine. All for nothing. We’ve seen this movie before. It has a bad ending for the Kremlin regime.

—”No I dont stay on top of Russian media. Its all lies...”

Good propaganda is like pizza barf, a few recognizable bits are mixed in.

By the way, did you see the nice photo of Zelensky?

Posted by one of the local bots that want a promotion to troll second class? In #19.

His masters will not be happy.

And many Russians do not want to be ruled over by corrupt autocrats. Putin’s opposition has risked their lives and sometimes lost their lives in resisting his 22-year brutal dictatorship. Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Alexei Navalny, Yulia Latynina, and Boris Nemtsov are just some of the most famous personalities in opposition to Putin. All the aforementioned are in prison, in exile, or have been murdered.

Just one of Putin’s palace complexes (in Gelendzhik on the Black Sea) is estimated to be worth $1,400,000,000 (that’s 1.4 Billion for you folks in Rio Linda as Rush liked to say). Navalney was an anti-corruption activist and now sits in prison because he exposed the elaborate palace complexes of both Medvedev and Putin.

Putin makes war upon his own people.

It is unlikely to destroy Russia but it may end Putin’s reign and begin to make Russia a fully modern nation with no land-imperial designs anywhere.

I have spent a lot of time looking at all new sources about this so-called war and I can tell you right now western propaganda dwarfs anything you Get from third parties or Russian media

I have found sources outside of Western media to be 70-80% accurate where is western media is full-blown lies with very few exceptions

There is no question Russian media is fearful of Vladimir Putin But a free media does exist in Russia and Putin is frequently publicly ask very Porten questions about the progress of the war and the goals etc. I have watched nearly all of his press conferences and I can attest to this personally

Another little known fact amongst freepers

Russian media is much like our own media it is very liberal and antagonistic and at its core anti-Putin much like American media was anti-Trump although they are not nearly as vociferous in their accusations they are still liberalist and woke and do not like Putin‘s culture war views

Anybody here who takes the time to study these things and listen to something besides western propaganda from a media they normally don’t believe would know this

Right now things are not going very well for Ukraine but you would never know that from the news you were given

Every single occurrence in the special military operation is given a spin to benefit Zelenskyy without exception not to mention all the fabrications of heroes etc. that were proven to be bullshit

I do think Putin realized it was a mistake to attempt a limited war but given that the inhabitants of the Donbass are Russian sympathetic it did not make a lot of sense to bomb them into oblivion the way Ukraine forces do and he had to deal with media optics but I think that is over

What they are doing now with special drones and amassing large numbers of troops is something they could’ve done to begin with but I think they thought they could push Ukraine to the negotiation table without that but the United States and Great Britain stop that

Sources outside of western propaganda claim all of this happened when Russia withdrew from Kyiv months ago as a good faith gesture thinking they had a deal but the United States stopped it

Now Russia is mad

I still do not believe they will take all of the country but they will definitely take the Donbass and Odessa and probably that little oblast to the west of Odessa whose name always escapes me

Starts with a T

Ukraine has lost a lot of men no question of that and material but they have had some successes if you could call them that with our help they basically showed Russia a limited war was not going to work unfortunately that just means more dead people for something whose outcome has as in my opinion never really been a doubt it just depends on how much Russia wants to pay to win

Support for this war and for Vladimir Putin is very high in Russia like in the 80s

—”Russia wanted it land corridor to Crimea, and has got it.”

How will they hold a very long line?

The IRA used mortars mounted in automobiles, to shoot and get.

How will Russia defend itself from such tactics?
That brings us back to the here and now.

In the first days of the war, a Russian general said it would be over quickly... because he did not want to become a guerilla shooting target.

And as noted in the article it weakens Russia’s attempt to hold down its unhappy confederates.

This becomes a dilemma. What to save?

It also is a cascading failure of the Russian Federation.

Again,

If Ukraine was getting beaten in Kherson, Russia would not be evacuating citizens and military hardware.

Havent paid attention to Z day to day..

It’s much easier to contend with a guerrilla movement when the majority of the areas residents are sympathetic to the occupiers.
