Texas woman, 35, reveals she almost died from sepsis when doctors refused to abort dying baby at 18 weeks - forcing her to endure inevitable miscarriage

A Texas woman has revealed that she nearly died from sepsis after doctors in the abortion-ban state refused to remove an inviable child from her body.

Amanda Zurawski, 35, was 18 weeks pregnant with her daughter when she noticed something was wrong - but she was forced to wait three days until she was 'sick enough' for medics to perform an emergency abortion.

On August 23, she found out that she had an incompetent cervix - meaning that she had dilated too early and miscarriage was inevitable.

Because of strict abortion laws in Texas following the overturn of Roe v Wade, she wasn't allowed to make the decision to remove the fetus from her body - nor were doctors going to operate - meaning she had to wait it out until she got sick.

It took her an agonizing three days at home before the Texas ethics board agreed to begin medical treatment to remove the child - which was now a stillborn - from her womb.

She's now facing long-term health and bacterial issues because of the traumatic ordeal - and is set to undergo surgery next week.

And she fears that the delayed healthcare may have permanently affected her fertility and worsened her chances of carrying her own baby one day.

Knowing that she was walking around with an unviable baby inside her, heartbroken Amanda told People: 'It could be days, it could be weeks. And knowing that we just had to live with that, it was incapacitating.

'I was unable to function. I didn't work, I didn't eat, I didn't sleep. I was left wanting to either get so sick that I almost died or, praying for my baby's heart to stop beating — this baby that I had wanted and worked to have for 18 months.'

If the baby is not viable, Texas law allows for an abortion. PERIOD!

This is ridiculous. Docs have always done “therapeutic abortions” when the mother’s life is in danger. In the old days, if there was a life-threatening delivery with few options, they would call the family and/or clergyman and ask, “Shall I save the mother or the baby?”

We should rule the world by anecdote. If we can find JUST ONE EXCEPTION in a world of nearly 8 billion people, then that anecdote should determine the law.

It's the hysterical progressive Democrat way.

Exactly.

There is a not a doctor in the world that would allow that to happen. If the fetus is not viable, its not an abortion.

The Texas law is pretty clear about that. Journalists should actually read the law. It’s written plainly.

If the baby is already dead, it isn’t an abortion. When a fetus dies the woman’s body will usually go into labor on it’s own, and within days. I have seen this happen twice to one of my daughters.
This woman did not get sepsis because she had a dead fetus in her womb. She just didn’t want to have to go through labor.
I’ll bet had she carried the baby to term she would have insisted on a c section to avoid labor.

The left is trying to make this a mother’s life issue, except that there is no danger to the mother to carry a dead fetus for days, or even months. My sister carried a dead fetus for three months, and two of my daughters have had this problem. One of them carried the dead fetus for 7 months.
