I was going to watch it, but when I found out that it was a Ken Burns production, I took it off my list. I would rather see a well-documented series on how the U.S. and other allied governments failed to pursue and punish known Nazi war criminals, and in fact, used them as paid assets to provide intelligence on their perceived enemies. We have never been told the truth about this country’s role in helping Nazis escape to the U.S., or the crimes they knew that these same people had committed. We should also be allowed to know, just what intelligence these war criminals provided this government, and if it actually made a difference in the war against communism.
I have found all of his major work overrated and irritating, for 2 basic reasons:
-INCESSANT pounding on the poor black martyrs with heavy emphasis; yes, this INCLUDES “Civil War”
-Boring production value; everything is a funeral dirge, and that includes “Baseball” which should be largely upbeat and peppy, but still sounds like a funeral dirge in the background
The only thing so far I “liked” was the story of a cross-country automobile excursion of an early auto pioneer (common in those days). That was reasonable and not overly boringly presented. Topic that apparently Burns found peppy enough to avoid dirges, and unable to cobble the Poor Black Martyr into.
People act like it’s just come out of the blue.
In truth I felt slandered and libeled as a country in the ‘80s in school.
It’s much worse now, but it existed then.
Basically, since the evil, overrated ‘60s the society has turned to crap.
6 hours of nonstop whining, and blaming the US as usual.
“We lost a lot of men fighting that war”
Think how many dead Americans we would of lost if ‘interventionists ideologues’ would’ve had their way in WW1 & WW2.
Between 1 & 2 million is my conservative estimate.
LOL, never saw that! Those people must work for the Bee now...
IMO, his treatment of the matter could not have beaten a series done way back when. I used to watch “The World at War.”
Howard Zinn has done incalculable damage to this country.
Still the Gold Standard for War Documentaries. I also highly recommend The Winds of War/War and Remembrance.
The one thing I remember from the World at War was seeing Stephen Ambrose with long hair.
See Operation Keelhaul.
I thought you might be referencing Project Mercury 2, Jan 1st 1961 when Ham was launched into space.
/Guess I’m on another list now.
Exactly. Bottom line. Thank you. Our mission was to destroy the Nazi war machine, not rescue people who we couldn’t reach if we wanted to. And don’t forget, many German Jews chose freely to stay in Germany for a host of reasons which made sense to them at the time; it was not as if every Jew in Europe wanted to come to America.
Today it’s gets hard to separate the satire from reality.
Babylon Bee has stiff competition!🤣
Why self flagellate now
Undermines USA foundations by one sided negative narrative.
The real fascists are the leftists that rig elections and run the DOJ and the corrupt police state agencies FBI, DEA, IRS etc.
At least the schools should be better and safer.
Oh, and our inner-city hooligans are going to love the new Chinese police force!
I’ve read 1000’s of pages of history on the Pacific war and while there was a lot of suspicion about Japs living in Hawaii, i’ve never read anything of the sort.
I understand why FDR did what he did- it is funny how when monuments of Thomas Jefferson or Teddy Roosevelt are regularly removed, nothing bearing the name of FDR is touched.
