The incident transpired late last month in Miami and saw both suspects arrested by officers on the sands of Sunny Isles Beach - but not before resisting arrest

The entire altercation was caught on camera by one beachgoer - and the kitten, pictured clinging to life after the ordeal, survived

Both suspects have since been bonded out, with Wayne charged with two felony counts of battery and attempted battery on a police officer and resisting arrest

Laguerre was hit with resisting arrest and animal cruelty - both misdemeanors

Following their arrest, the pair failed to return to retrieve their pet - spurring one of the feline's saviors to step up and adopt the animal

The woman has since been able to rehome the kitten, saying amid the chaos, all she cared about was making sure the animal made it out of the mayhem all right

========================================================================================

A couple is facing charges after they were filmed torturing a small kitten while swimming at a local beach - throwing the helpless animal feet in the air like a pool toy and into the shoulder-deep water.

When approached by outraged onlookers, the suspects, 27-year-old John Laguerre and Jamarria Wayne, 22 - joked and demanded $1,000 from the Good Samaritans just to stop.

The incident transpired late last month in Miami and saw both suspects arrested by officers on the sands of scenic Sunny Isles Beach - but not before resisting arrest and even almost biting one of the officers.

Ironically, if those two had been throwing a white person around like that, it wouldn’t even have been a crime.

I understand some animals fear water but wouldn’t call anything I saw as abuse. Now again there may be more video I have not seen, but what I saw this just isn’t abuse. No it’s not nice but abuse? While scared nothing that I saw put the animal in danger, or physical harm.

My cat acts likes it’s being tortured when I give it a bath, that doesn’t make it abuse.

Definitely a case of selective wording and phrasing to push bias in the article, but it’s the daily mail so kind of a given .

When you give your cat a bath, it’s a very limited environment and you aren’t just tossing it and expecting it to swim. Very different. The person who rescued the cat said it was barely alive.

The cat is in the film, very much swimming and active... it was not some passed out lump.

As I said, there may be more film that I have not seen, but what I saw, nothing comes close to abuse.

A cat or dog and most other animal knows how to swim.. even an elephant believe it or not can swim instinctively. They didn’t toss the cat huge distances and let it swim until it lost its strength.

They tossed it a few feet, and it swam back to them, or from one of them to another... Again there may be more footage, but what I saw nothing appeared to be putting the kitten in any physical danger.

if they had dumped it over the side of a boat and drove away, certainly... if they had tossed it 500 feet into the air, or thrown it with all their might as far away as they could trying to drown it certainly, but from what I saw that was not the case here.

At no point in what video I was able to find of the incident were these two attempting to do harm to the cat. Now would I take my kitten onto a public beach and do this? No, but what I saw didn’t come across as abuse.

Rescuer says cat was shaking and barely alive when she got to it.

These people then resisted arrest, cussed at police and threatened to bite them; and failed to retrieve ‘their’ cat from animal services.

You can make excuses for them. I wouldn’t let them near an animal.

In my state cruelty to animals is a felony. One can use reasonable force to stop a felony.

I don’t give two craps.
Anyone abusing a critter in front of me will get a reckoning.
These vermin need to be in jail before their crimes worsen.

Just in case there's any doubt as to who is an animal in this pic:

The cat obviously did not like this. The fact that it is flailing and trying its best to stay above water is just a sign of terror fueling hormonal response - it doesn’t mean that the cat was actively ‘swimming’ and in any way ‘enjoying’ itself. I’m surprised a kitten survived this.
