Jacob Runyan and Chase Cominsky were indicted on multiple charges after a video showed their catch apparently stuffed with lead weights.
Two fishermen captured in a viral video appearing to scam an Ohio fishing tournament are on the hook for multiple crimes, including cheating, authorities said in announcing their indictments Wednesday.
Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley described the allegedly fishy conduct of Jacob Runyan, 42, and Chase Cominsky, 35, at last month’s Lake Erie Walleye Trail Tournament as “not only dishonorable but also criminal.”
Runyan and Cominsky were indicted on charges of attempted grand theft, cheating, possession of criminal tools and unlawful ownership of wild animals, O’Malley said in a news release.
Two fishermen were found to have weighed down their fish with lead weights in order to win a tournament in Cleveland.
The criminal tools charge stemmed from allegations the pair used Cominsky’s boat during the competition, the release said.
Authorities seized the vessel and its trailer Tuesday.

Their arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 26.

Is it actually illegal to cheat at fishing? Is there some law against it?
“what happened to teaching kids “It is not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game””
Large sums of money.
It was a nod.
Hypertension much?
Attempted theft by deception is a crime in every jurisdiction (fraud). The DA is correct in bringing charges and this is such a slam-dunk case that I'm sure their attorney will recommend to them that they seek a plea bargain. They got caught red-handed committing a felony and would have no chance in a trial.
Give them the Brian Laundrie option.
Is it Comiskey or Cominsky? Asking for Obama.
Fisherman here.....You would not believe the extent of cheating that goes on in fishing. There is something about most fisherman that have to show off their catch to everyone or brag about. Me. I take a pic and put the fish gently back in the water. I know people who catch a huge bass and ride around town in their truck and show it off to people. I don’t get it.
I like to fish because I like being where the fish live.
Prolly grand larceny, fraud and most definitely, stupidity . . .
