A tree trimmer died after falling into a wood chipper Tuesday, police in California reported.
Shortly before 1pm on Tuesday, a tree trimmer in Menlo Park, roughly 30 miles south of San Francisco, accidentally fell into a wood chipper and died, according to ABC News. “When police units arrived on scene, a male subject was found deceased from injuries sustained in the incident,” Menlo Park police department told the outlet, confirming the fatality.
Video footage of the scene was released by CBS News showing the wood chipper with a yellow tarp covering part of the machine.
The street was closed while multiple authorities, including the local police department, Menlo Park’s fire protection district, and the San Mateo county coroner’s office, investigated the incident, ABC noted. The California Occupational Safety and Health Administration is also investigating the death and has up to six months to determine if there were any safety failures on the job site, which was apparently run by S.P. McLenanham, Fox News reported.
The identity of the tree trimmer has not been released, but the coroner did say he was male, ABC continued. They’re looking to notify his next of kin, and it’s unclear whether they’ll be making any further statements on the tragic accident.
Heck...they can’t find his left hand.
Chip of the old block
It’s a Cohen Brothers Indie movie. The ‘plot’ was taken from a real life crime story, but it wasn’t Fargo, it was in Connecticut, IIRC..........
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Connecticut, correct. A guy I know was his cellmate.
Chip off the old block
barked up the wrong tree
Wife and I were walking the dog recently. A tree guy was having trouble getting the branches to feed into the chipper. He climbed up into the feed chute, chipper going full blast, to free up the jam.
All kidding aside, terrible way to go.
The fall probably knocked him unconscious. He never knew what happened..................
Very sad and tragic. Praying for his family.
Preventable if safety procedures were followed and it shocks me how lax employers can be. I see and hear about it in my work all the time.
So many state and federal agencies are going to get a piece of the action. OSHA and CalOSHA to start, plus the Contractors State Licensing Board (CSLB). Plus, a workers’ compensation death claim.
I believe we just added a new candidate to the loooong list of candidates for the 2022 Darwin Award.
How do they recover the body?
How do they present the remains to the Medical Examiner?
How does the funeral home deal with the remains?
“Fargo”, the movie.
Is his name "Chip"?
Or Woody?.....................
My brother used to trim trees for the utility. He mentioned a few weeks ago that guys would mis-apply a strap here or there and fall out there f the tree- sometimes landing on a coworker. I suppose if the chipper happened to be directly below…
Horrible. I hope it was fast.
...
He was “pulled into” it, so he must have been a feeder, and it was probably a bit slower and very terrifying.
THAT is brutal.
I’m going to go out on a limb here...
