The Bennard family from Shelby County, Tennessee, suffered a devastating blow Oct. 6 when their two dogs fatally attacked the family’s 2-year-old and 5-month-old.
The dogs, two pit bulls named Cheech and Mia, turned on Hollace Dean, 5 months old, and Lilly Jane, 2, for no discernable reason.
Mom Kirstie Jane Bennard, 30, gave her all to protect her children, using herself as a shield to try to protect Lilly Jane and receiving countless lacerations in the process, according to USA Today.
Despite her sacrifice and efforts during the horrific 10-minute onslaught, the Bennards lost both their precious babies and Kirstie was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The two dogs had been with the family for eight years and had never shown any signs of aggression, according to the report.
Friends and family have been shocked by the incident, saying the dogs had never given any sign they’d be capable of such an atrocity (though many people have said being a pit bull is sign enough).
“I can promise you those children were her world, and if there was any inkling of danger, she would have never had those dogs near her kids,” Kelsey Canfield, Kirstie’s best friend, told Fox News.
“Those children were everything to them, and they just have a really long journey ahead.”
The dogs were euthanized on Thursday, according to a tweet by the Shelby County Sheriff.
“As of now it looks like there isn’t any permanent damage other than a heart that will never heal.

Too too many people get “big dogs” because it’s “cool?!
Dogs they can’t physically control or control through training.

Five pit bull attack deaths in five days: these were the victims

It is crazy how they just snap one day many years later. I guess people do the same thing but horrible to lose your kids to a friggin dog. I doubt she will be able to live out her life after this. God Bless her.
I just clicked to see if it was a beagle or perhaps springer spaniel. Imagine my surprise to find once again it was a couple of “Dogs of Peace”.
Idiots who own these things need their heads examined.
I was gonna say that - when I first heard about this, my first thought was that the two dogs were a breeding pair, or at least not neutered. Their behavior can change drastically when they are being hormonal.
I like pit bull dogs, but I like all dogs. There are other breeds of dog that have unpredictable or hair-trigger temperaments and are more likely to bite than some, but pit bulls of course do more damage when they bite, because of the brutal history of how the breed originated in the first place. They were for pit fighting and the sadistic sport of baiting. So the potential is always there. You have to give a pit bull a special kind of home and handle it a certain way if you want it for a companion.
I have a lot of stories - one guy had a pit bull and a cat in his apartment and they lived in harmony for years but then the dog just started having a problem with the cat that got worse and worse so the guy gave his cat to a neighbor.
That’s one of the lighter-hearted stories. The others are - ugh.
Most likely in Ukraine, and they were Ruzzian Dogs :)
I think the problem was apparent when the parent made the decision to bring pit bulls anywhere near their children.

There is a reason why many home insurance companies will not insure your house IF you have a Pitbull.
This breed is responsible for more canine deaths than pretty much most other breeds combined. Rottweillers are next on the list, followed by German Shepard dogs.
Dachshounds actually are responsible for many more bites per capita. However, that bite might result in a laceration to your ankle. Same story with Chihuahuas. Male Chihuahuas can be quite nasty. I know, I own one. One minute he is loving the fact you are petting him. The next second he is biting your hand. Chihuahuas especially like to bite you in the calf when you are walking away from them. Little bas#ards.
Almost all American Staffordshire Terriers were bred to fight a Male Bovine(bull) in a ring called a Pit. They have been bred for hundreds of years selectively for the best fighters with the strongest jaws.
The ones that did not win the fight were killed by the stronger dogs. The Pitbulls SOLD by shelters are typically the dogs that come out of the southern US or out of the hood in places like Detroit or Baltimore or LA or New Orleans.
The shelters in places like here in NH pay to bring these dogs in from other states and SELL them to virtue signalling Yuppies here in NH and elsewhere. The shelter then sells the Pitbull as a “Lab Mix” on the registration. They do this because they know that insurance companies will not insure your house IF you have a Pitbull.
All Pitbulls should be exterminated.
“This is a horrible story. I can’t imagine losing a 2-year-old and 5-month-old. I feel horrible for her. I really don’t know how you come back from that.”
I also love dogs. We have two collies with sweet temperaments. But, I don’t understand why the children were apparently unattended.
Animal shelters in most cities are simply another form of welfare in the ghetto.
My friend works with two animal shelters in our big blue city. Its 90% pit bulls. Once again others need to work and pay to clean up thug-life and ghetto irresponsibility
Very few breeds are more than a thousand years old. The Pharaoh Hound is probably one of the oldest. They are depicted in Egyptian drawings.
I touched my Aunt & Uncle’s boxer “the wrong way” when I was about 3 and got attacked. I’ve still got a small scar on my face from that event. I think I was hugging the dog. Not sure what happened to their dog after that.
“All pit bulls should be put down.”
I have one. Are you going to come over to my house to “put him down?”
Was it buried?
The fact that dad called the two dogs the "house lions"? Does that not, in of itself, infer that they MAY be a bit aggressive? And if so, is it EVER worth the risk?
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot-- over?
Why oh WHY do people think that this is a good idea to have such things around their kids?
"Glorious God, please take both of these beautiful children to Heaven, and somehow ease the eternal pain their parents must now endure".
“Yeah, I read the original story.

Thank you for your post. Especially, your prayer:
