California, a state known for its onerous regulations caused by left-wing policies, has approved legislation to ban stores from providing those helpful little plastic bags that consumers commonly use to store produce while shopping at the supermarket.
The new rule is slated to go into effect on January 1, 2025, but even after it takes hold, stores will still be allowed to offer compostable bags and recycled paper bags, according to the bill.
The text of the bill states that "a 'precheckout bag' means a bag provided to a customer before the customer reaches the point of sale, that is designed to protect a purchased item from damaging or contaminating other purchased items in a checkout bag, or to contain an unwrapped food item, such as, but not limited to, loose produce, meat or fish, nuts, grains, candy, and bakery goods. 'Precheckout bag' does not include a bag used to prepackage items prior to their arrival in a store."

Well certainly THIS will move the needle.
Yet, everything in the store is packaged in plastic. This is to inconvenience us because they despise “we the people”. Coming to a state near you——NJ has a similar law and it sucks. I live in PA and I refuse to shop in NJ because it’s such a stupid law.
‘Banifornia.’ Another day, another something BANNED.
How about they ban Socialists from holding any public office?
That would solve 99.999% of their problems!
Just put your bare broccoli on top of your leaking chicken package.
Great way to shed some pounds.
Win-win…
First they came for our straws....
And every single product in CA might cause cancer.
These people won’t be happy till consumers are getting food poisoning from their raw chicken cross contaminating produce from people handling produce after handling raw chicken, there is a reason that we don’t hang raw meat in grocery stores like the third world.
I hate it in principle but in reality it isn’t that bad. I use my own bags that don’t rip to shreds and I bag it myself which is faster. Too bad for the grocery bagger jobs though.
And good point about how everything in the store is packaged in plastic...can’t piss off our corporate overlords.
Straight up tyranny. They’re insane.
...because all of CA’s other problems have been solved....
There’s the silver lining! Good on ya!
Cross contamination dieting for the win /s
Are you crazy? This is chickensh*t in action. Cauliphonya! The Asylum State. Home of America’s Nuts and Flakes.
Commiefornians would rather rot before getting rid of Adolf Newsom.
I don’t like government making these laws across the board. Companies do it then I go elsewhere....However this gives you no choice.
Also, those “cotton bags” or whatever they are, uses far more energy and resources to fabricate, use, and rid of than plastic bags-—which are usually used several times. Also, you get chicken juice, rotten fruit that leaks into them, voila now you’re using resources to wash them every other time you use them-—or spread dangerous germs.
There is no excuse for them.
California must be a paradise if they have so much time that they can worry about this.
****The Asylum State. Home of America’s Nuts and Flakes.*****
However, you’re not allowed to put “nuts and flakes” in a plastic bag either.
Gen Z really are entitled snowflakes who will turn on “older” customers for expecting a cart in store or service at the check lane. One cashier told me to my face it was “privilege” and I told him it was a different expectation of value for their hard earned dollar. He didn’t like that.
Here in Atlanta, Publix does a decent job with service but even they have been installing self checkouts. Walmart has almost nothing else.
