Yup - there it is. Starship - “We Built This City”. Worst song I’ve ever heard in any language. Just so bad on multiple levels.

I think if a man from the future visited Grace Slick back in 1967 and played that song and told her one day she would be doing it, she would have offed herself.

They certainly jumped the shark with that tune.

“Yup - there it is. Starship - “We Built This City”. “

There was an Australian show where the authorities threw a computer hacker naked into a freezing room, and played “We Built This City” on an endless loop. Waterboarding would have been better.

Almost as if their starship was taken by aliens.

"We Built This City" was a surprising song to come from Starship (who were an iteration of the Jefferson Airplane).

Judging by the lyrics, it sounded like it was trying to deliver an anti-corporate message but the song itself epitomized the over-produced, slick, polished, radio-friendly "corporate rock" sound that was so prevalent on Top 40 airwaves during that period.

The voiceover in the song was also changed to match the city that the song was played in. So while San Francisco listeners might here "I'm looking out over that Golden Gate Bridge", Bostonians would hear something like "I'm looking out over the river Charles" when played on KISS 108 (a big Top 40 station at the time).

Just another crass move to make the local listeners think that Starship wrote the song specific to THEIR city.

Silly rabbits, that was an imitation; this is the real band that built that city on rock and roll.
