The rookie cop initially said he was struck by the teen's vehicle, but newly released body-cam footage suggests otherwise.

In this case, because there is video, we can see what a lie it was.
He should be arrested

Good job Serpico.
I wish they would just come right out and say, shot him in his fat rear end, instead of saying, the policeman shot him in the parking lot…
The policeman needs a firing squad appointment after a quick trial.
I meant: "tried to hit the officer".
A lot of times the suspect is trying to get away, but the cop jumps in front of the car, or runs toward the car and get sideswiped. There may be no intent to hit the officer, and the suspect even tries to avoid hitting the officer, but the officer created the contact, or moves in front of the car, which is a license to blast away.
Even if that is shown, the reason for shooting simply becomes: "to prevent a danger to the public".
at the 50 second mark, the punk clearly puts the car in reverse and begins turning the wheel to back out....the open door clearly hits the cop. I guess any kind of police contact nowadays is simple...just run....smh...
I see the cop walking with the car, not being hit by the door, at all.
The kid was in critical condition after being hit by many large caliber bullets shot at very close range.
It’s like a random execution by police, which, hopefully, gets him capitol punishment, if the kid dies.
That is, “capital punishment.”
Punk? The kid is sitting in his own car, eating a cheeseburger, minding his own business, and a cop pulls open his door and tell him to get out. The kid was scared to death. I’m not sure I blame him.
You can’t tell from that video whether he was struck or not.
Another story on this incident, indicated that the suspect car was involved in some criminal incident the previous night. Which gave the police some “probable cause” apparently, to confront the driver.
I don’t know all the laws on probable cause, just saying that was one news report, that this is why the policeman confronted the driver.
I saw the bodycam video. The cop mentions the vehicle ‘got away from him’ the previous night. He calls for backup. Before the backup gets there, he just opens the door and shouts at the kid to get out. The kid is in the middle of taking a bite of his burger. For some reason, and I don’t remember if the cop announced himself as a police officer, the kid puts the car in reverse and reverses. The cop then opens fire.
Real quick, but to me (not a police officer) it seems like the cop should’ve waited for backup before confronting the guy. Hindsight’s 20/20 though.
The “punk” was innocent. He backed away after the cop tried assaulting him
The only problem was, that wasn’t the car.
I agree with you, he looked terrified and simply asked why in a very scared manner, then the cop just starting blasting him
Oh man. Didn’t catch that from the video. Was it another car shown in the video?
A lot of mistakes here.
My hearing isn’t what it used to be but it sounded like the car had escaped him prior in another location. That is a class B felony in Florida. 15 and $10K.
But what is one officer doing approaching a car at the blind side, jerking open the door, and ordering a kid to get out without backup and standing in the door. If he’s a felon, he most likely is packing and the officer could have got leveled. And the response from the driver should have been fully expected with the car running as he did not start it, he just put it in gear whether through criminality or fear.
When the car backed up, he put part of the restaurant in the line of fire and the officer continued to fire what I think was 5 bullets that could have entered the building.
The whole transaction legal or not was badly mishandled and dispatch was aware of the actions through the body cam at least.
