Another story on this incident, indicated that the suspect car was involved in some criminal incident the previous night. Which gave the police some “probable cause” apparently, to confront the driver.
I don’t know all the laws on probable cause, just saying that was one news report, that this is why the policeman confronted the driver.
I saw the bodycam video. The cop mentions the vehicle ‘got away from him’ the previous night. He calls for backup. Before the backup gets there, he just opens the door and shouts at the kid to get out. The kid is in the middle of taking a bite of his burger. For some reason, and I don’t remember if the cop announced himself as a police officer, the kid puts the car in reverse and reverses. The cop then opens fire.
Real quick, but to me (not a police officer) it seems like the cop should’ve waited for backup before confronting the guy. Hindsight’s 20/20 though.
