A lot of mistakes here.
My hearing isn’t what it used to be but it sounded like the car had escaped him prior in another location. That is a class B felony in Florida. 15 and $10K.
But what is one officer doing approaching a car at the blind side, jerking open the door, and ordering a kid to get out without backup and standing in the door. If he’s a felon, he most likely is packing and the officer could have got leveled. And the response from the driver should have been fully expected with the car running as he did not start it, he just put it in gear whether through criminality or fear.
When the car backed up, he put part of the restaurant in the line of fire and the officer continued to fire what I think was 5 bullets that could have entered the building.
The whole transaction legal or not was badly mishandled and dispatch was aware of the actions through the body cam at least.

The car from the prior night never had a license plate recorded, from what I read elsewhere.
It was simply a similar make, model, and color.
It could have been you and your wife.

My hearing isn't what it used to be but it sounded like the car had escaped him prior in another location. Nope. What JBT said was that he THOUGHT that it was a car that he had pursued the night before. Because you can tell the car was SO distinctive. I am sure there are no more then five or six hundred cars that look like that in the area.

How it SHOULD have gone down was something like "Hi there, San Antonio police, can I ask you a few questions?", like a squared away professional would.
An issue that a lot of folk, particularly those out of state, are not aware of is that the use of dead/fake/stolen license plates is absolutely RAMPANT in the state of Texas, so much so that a task force was formed to combat it. Even if you manage to get the plate info of a vehicle used in a crime chances are good it won't help at all. So you have just the vehicle description and maybe those of the occupants to go by. Paper dealer temp plates are the worst - those are being printed out like crazy. Two characters robbed a local grocery store of $2000 worth of meat, and got clean away. Had the paper license plates screwed down over the real ones. The latest crime fad around where I live are nondescript tow trucks showing up late at night, wee hours of the morning, and snatching vehicles out of people's driveways. Cops have been slow to react since they've been assuming they're repo jobs - they're not, so they've been operating with impunity and getting away with it so far. Maybe until somebody puts a load of buckshot on them.
