Man Plugs $80k+ Electric Truck Into His House, Finds Out It Will Take Over 4 Days to Charge
Western Journal ^ | 01Oct22 | Golden

Congratulations. You’ve just purchased one of the most expensive high-performance electric trucks on the market.

You’ve gone green and you’ve done it in style with the GMC Hummer, starting at $86,645. That’s right — the Hummer’s now a green vehicle! What was once the biggest villain in the left’s war on fossil fuels is now the poster child for responsible off-roading....

The video begins with standard 120V charging — or Level 1 charging, to use official jargon. This is the standard current your home already offers.

“Right now it’s about 6 p.m. on Tuesday,” the man says. “And it says it will be full by Saturday at 10:55 [p.m.], which is four-plus days of charging. Wow.”

However, our intrepid Hummer owner had one of those — the JuiceBox, a 240v charger, installed in his garage.

How much difference did that make? Not as much as you might think. “Now it says it will be done tomorrow by 6:30 [p.m.],” the video narrator says. “So about 24 hours of charging from four percent to 100 percent.”.......

Car and Driver went to an Electrify America charging station, where it cost over $100 to “fill up” the Hummer at 43 cents per kilowatt hour....

For the record, my Tesla’s daily charge limit is set to 90%. I only exceed that if I’m on a road trip and have a need to go higher, which is seldom.

"...at an affordable price..."

And there is the reason I got an EV. If the price of gas was set by the oil riggers or anyone else in the free market it'd be cheap. But the gubment gets in between us and oil/gasoline. Frankly, they're doing the same with electricity: trying to make all of the U.S. have the same 3rd world experience California has with less reliable electricity at higher costs.

Except for me. The EV allows my wife and I to drive locally about 50 miles/day if we want almost entirely free; my ICE pickup doesn't do that. That's because I can't drill and process my own oil or natural gas. But I can produce my own electricity with the sunlight God graces our property. 95% of all the power we consumed since my upgrade of my solar came from the solar system -- including charging the EV. I expect that to average 90% across the year after I experience my first winter with the solar upgrade (I predict about 70% through the 2 lowest sunlight months, and that's even with no natural gas bill to heat my all-electric home).

So,dinodino reveals himself as an EVbois. Actually refreshing.

I go fill up my tank for a couple of minutes and I’m on the road. If I take a road trip I just pull into a gas station and get more gas. I don’t have to search for a charger that I hope works or someone else isn’t already using.

Wish I were King for a day.

First edict....EV owners/buyers will no longer get any tax help of any kind nor will and US based battery manufacturers or EV assembly plants receive any kind of tax break or incentive.

Second edict....EV owners are required to charge their cars with renewable energy or pay a surcharge for the hypocrisy of being Green but not really being Green.

Third edict....EVsthat crap out on the road and need to be towed by a diesel truck, pay the towing fee, the tow truck drivers mortgage, and his/her utility bill for 3 months.

A leaded fuel pump nozzle wouldn’t even fit in an unleaded car (different diameter) but cheap plastic adaptors were available (reducer)

What will the owner do during the many expected blackouts in the future?

I’m sure, dinodino and discostu, will have an answer for that. It’ll probably be along the lines of “one day batteries will last longer and I”ll be able to drive around the world on 2 AAs, you’ll see”. Something like that.

Of course, they could both move to Cali where the Green Governor is asking EV owners not too charge their toy cars. All is good.

Dude you are clueless. The electricity is not going to come from wind or solar, it comes from the Earth

Sorry to ruin your reality Pete B.

All questions HE should have asked BEFORE buying the car.

That’s my point. Every piece of information was available to him prior to purchase. If he didn’t want a car that took forever to charge on wall current he shouldn’t have bought it.

I’m not saying the car is worth a damn. There’s no way I’d buy a car that needed multiple days to charge on wall current. I’m saying none of this was secret information. All I did was type “ev hummer range” in the googles and all the info I gave you was right there.

The simple fact is he bought a Hummer. Hummers have been ridiculous silly vehicles from the day they hit the market. They’re too big, too thirsty, have over the top features nobody uses, and insanely expensive. They have been, for 30 years, a vehicle sold to people with more money than sense. And the EV apparently continues this proud Hummer tradition.

Will remain a low-mileage vehicle.
Good resale value.
Finally some good news about EVs.

How many $7,500 tax rebates have been awarded? A million?

$7,500 x 1,000,000 = $7.5 Billion that should have gone to the Ukraine.

That’s what I thought when I parked next to an old hummer a few days ago.

What a behemoth

“ First edict....EV owners/buyers will no longer get any tax help of any kind”

It’s already happened but they just didn’t notice the manufacturers raised the sales prices by the amount of the rebates.

The rebates go to the manufacturer

I remember when they first came out and people would buy them and find out they wouldn’t fit in the garage. Like you didn’t look at that thing and think you should probably check that math. Now this guy found out the thing doesn’t really fit in his wiring. Too bad so sad.

If you spend that kind of money on an EV put a real charging outlet in your garage.

Just make sure you get a long charging cable so you can charge it well away from the house or garage.
