I love Wisterias. The hanging flowers of lavender or white.
The vigorous and sturdy trunks.
Some of these trees look like a giant version of Bonsai, that small tree known for it’s gnarly, twisted trunks and delicate foilage.

My maternal family home where I spent most of my youth had a large wisterias arbor about 75-100 feet from the house that was probably 50-75 years old. The thing I remember most was that at a certain time of the year the pods would crack open at night. They sounded like pistol shots and would wake my brother and me up. Alas, about half the property was taken by the Capital Belt Way and the rest turned into a county park. The house, barns, arbor are now long gone.
