(I'm just the poster, not the tester)
A YouTuber with 1.4 million followers attempted to tow a 1930 Ford Model A truck with his brand new 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck, but it ended in “a complete and total disaster.” “If a truck towing 3,500 pounds can’t even go 100 miles — that is ridiculously stupid,” Tyler “Hoovie” Hoover says in his video. “This truck can’t do normal truck things. You would be stopping every hour to recharge, which would take about 45 minutes a pop, and that is absolutely not practical.”
“This is my new 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck,” YouTuber Tyler “Hoovie” Hoover said in a video in which he tests the electric truck’s towing capabilities, which resulted in “a complete and total disaster.”

And imagine trying to find a charging station allowed to recharge your car if you were in California, for example. What an incredible joke.
Awesome. Thanks.
yep teslagator is more dependable than a gas car
The green fanatics and misfits basically want to destroy the American standard of living, as they’re certainly not saving the earth.
The more EV’s they put on the roads, the more chaos they will create. It’s all baked into the plan, and a big bonus is at the same time they’ll significantly limit travel and American’s freedom of movement.
i am sorry to have to tell you this but you are dreaming
the purpose of EVs is not
transportation
economy
efficiency
or anything else rational
the purpose of EVs is control
just like the rest of the globull warmist agenda
I have a hybrid. But in February, 2022 Toyota Corolla hybrid LE. If I drive sedately, I can break 60 miles a gallon. Push it up to 80 and it drops to about 40 over time. For a commuting vehicle, for simple errands around town, for road trips where I don’t need to carry a lot, it is a great choice. And so fantastic that I don’t have to worry about recharging, I just fill that small 10 gallon gas tank periodically.
But I am also glad I have a hummer for when I need to do a real driving, off-road, carrying anything, snow.
Excellent review
more likely he will be bankrupt
because people will not be able to travel as much
if he is on a bus route he has a chance
These trucks work just fine if you add the Unicorns and reins to the front.
;-)
I see EV’s being situationally practical. An EV golf cart, completely practical.
They are being marketed as “golf cars” now. Many never see a golf course. I suspect they will find a way to replace some cars with them.
“It didn’t catch fire though!”
There’s always tonight. And tomorrow night. Stand by...
The union workers at Ford haven’t been able to make a decent car or truck for 30 yrs or so.
I’m with you on that. If not for the daunting physics problem of energy storage via a battery, EVs would be vastly superior to ICEs. Assuming they do turn out to be viable on a mass scale and become the dominant technology, we will look back and wonder how we ever put up those hot, greasy gas burners and their complexity and their lame torque curve.
all posts about how EVs are get around town cars
are missing the point
EVs are not going to be optional
and as the globull warmists continue to move to “green energy” your electricity will be prohibitively expensive
instead of having an EV to tool around town
you will be more likely on a bus and worrying about how to keep from freezing to death
except that the globull warmists are moving forward regardless of technology
cuz the whole green agenda is about control
nothing else
Well, they don’t have to supply gas to ICE vehicles. Of course, supplying electricity may be a nice thing to charge extra for.
But yeah, as usual, the leaders haven’t really thought this through. They just see it as going back to the 70’s where the government could just require better mileage and emissions and the industry stepped up - because the room for improvement was there.
The EV stuff is nuts.
In theory, interchangeable batteries make sense but the battery needed to power a car is huge. It's not like someone can carry on around with a go-handle. Every charging station would have to have the equipment to handle the batteries, a technician to hook it up correctly, but more importantly, cars would have to be re-designed to allow for easy battery changes. Swapping batteries in current E-cars is a major job.
A Ford Model A doesn’t weigh anything near 3,500 lbs. It’s more like 2,265 lbs. depending on the model.
Looked up Monterey boats and ones near your 23 foot one are somewhere around 3950 lbs. So your situation would be even worse.
Now, when you back down the boat ramp and water gets up into the battery area.......
Absolutely agree, CATL is one of the larger battery suppliers for EV's, and will be producing a newer chemistry battery in 2023 that is rated for 100 miles/5 minutes. This is a big step in the right direction.
I'm waiting for commercialization of the Lithium Sulfate chemistry, which should provide similar (or better) charge rates, but with a 400% life expectancy. So, instead of the 150,000 / 8 year warranty - it's closer to 600,000 miles and 20 years before you drop below 80% original charge.
The next hurdle we are going to deal with is "Range Anxiety". Do you want to carry around a 600 mile range every day; if you are only "needing" a daily range of 300 miles? That's a lot of weight to be packing around, sort of like replacing your 15 gallon gas tank with a 50 gallon tank. Sure, you don't have to fill as often; but that's a lot of gasoline to pack around all the time.
“the purpose of EVs is control”
I don’t much understand this argument. It’s easy to make your own electricity. Very hard to make your own gas.
With an EV and some solar panels you can live fully off the grid, and not need gov’t for anything.
