Vegans and vegetarians depressed twice as often as meat-eaters: new study

Eating green and feeling blue? Vegetarians experience depressive episodes twice as frequently as meat eaters, according to a new study by Brazilian researchers published in the Journal of Affective Disorders. There’s a “positive association between the prevalence of depressive episodes and a meatless diet,” the study read. Scientists set out to investigate the potential association between a meatless diet and depression among adults, surveying 14,216 participants aged 35 to 74 years over six months. They were evaluated using the Clinical Interview Schedule-Revised instrument, a tool used to diagnose common mental health disorders. Vegetarians were found to have double the number of depressive episodes as meat eaters during the same period, even when variables such as smoking, alcohol intake, physical activity and micronutrient intake were taken into account. Researchers found an association between the prevalence of depressive episodes and a meatless diet...

I’ve heard of such abominations, but never seen it. Frankly, the amount of effort put into making duplicates of cheese and meat in less tasty, more processed form shows that, despite the virtue signalling, they know deep in their hearts that a cheeseburger is soooo good.

Meat fats give the brain what it needs. Those who know recommend a juicy cheeseburger to stave off depression. Could that be why there is the tradition of bringing copious amounts of food to a family’s house after a funeral?

I’m not surprised I think all I’ve ever met were depressed or worse.

Exactly. I’ve never seen someone try to make steak taste like kale.

I didn't grill a hamburger last night, because I didn't want to stand out in the rain and now I'm sad.

I will fire up the grill tonight because nobody should have to feel this way.

Lack of good protein and fats lead to depression. The brain requires good dietary proteins and fats.

Its been known for decades.

I think you might have found the issue. The vegans were probably all messed up to begin with. Being vegan is just a virtue signaling tactic to make up for some type of moral or mental deficiency.

-—Lack of good protein and fats lead to depression——

That fact has produced a new industry. Vegan protein supplements.

At Walmart, protein supplements claim nearly as much space as vitamins. Many however are not suitable for vegans since they contain whey. So, wheyless noxious protein powders to be added to water are available.

As an octogenarian, I have a protein deficiency and a Vitamin B12 deficiency.

When looking for supplements I discovered that there is a whole industry dedicated to supplying protein and B12 to vegans. Being fanatics, vegans will refuse a product for the least little thing. The results are prolific supplement offerings that single out those least little things some reject and pandering to that requirement.

Native American name for a vegetarian: “One Who Can’t Hunt”.

It’s only natural that eating meat makes a person feel good. Meat, since the beginning of human history, was hard to get. You had to hunt for it. That required skill. The reward for the effort and skill was the good taste of the meat, and with it a warm, happy feeling as the meat was eaten with other members of the family.

Other thing vegans haven’t quite figured out:

If you refuse to eat meat, dairy, eggs, etc. what do you think would happen to all those cows and chickens?

The farmers will just keep mating and feeding them without any source of income? Farmers will just throw up their hands in the air and say “Oh well, I guess I can’t eat because all my savings are going to feed the animals I can’t sell?”

Did the vegans figure out all those animals producing various things will be put to death as they can no longer be fed?
